For anybody that thinks PM isn't a good coach, look at college baseball objectively.

So Mainieri was hired in '07, won the CWS in 09'.

Since '10, LSU is second in natl seeds, and only FL and TCU have more CWS appearances. LSU is tied with a bunch of teams with 3 CWS appearances.

Yes, LSU is middle of the pack, in the top tier of college baseball. That's not a bad place to be.

I have no problem with people expecting a championship out of those national seeds. But hey, at least we aren't FSU.

I’m with you here I want fans to have the highest expectations but just because LSU doesn’t reach those lofty expectations does that also mean Mainieri is a bad coach? Because no coach in the country lives up to LSU’s expectations.

We were in the national championship series last year. Is this thread really needed? If so I’m going to head back to poli talk as they are obviously more intelligent than the rant

It will always be very hard for any LSU baseball coach to live up to the standard Skip set in the 90s, which was basically a national championship every other year on average.

I know right. It’s like we were not in the CWS finals last year.

Too many people here treat baseball like football where one loss is devastating. Hell even last year we started slow and if not for Florida’s pitchers going HAM we might have won it all.

Baseball is a marathon not a sprint. Just let it play out.

I don't see how any coach can get all the way to the last round of the college world series and be a bad coach. This isn't like getting 9 wins in football last year and trying to claim it as a remarkable feat. Post season in college baseball is a tough gauntlet.

And Florida was probably the only team in the country that could beat LSU 2/3 in that series. It was disappointing to lose, but LSU was absolutely spent coming through the losers bracket.

I think Paul is a good coach, you dont win as many games at two diff stops and be a bad coach. but looking back at smokes records, they have a lot of similar ones.

Yeah smoke never broke 50, but paul's teams that did flamed out any way.

And on top of this, if Gilbert doesn't get injured this is probably a different series.

Agreed Paul always experiments around this time and people melt the nights away until we start rolling.

This year is slightly different though, Weakest pitching staff we have seen in quite some time. Mostly because of injures. If Walker is healthy it would be very different.
