This isn't completely true. Lee threw a great TD pass to Byrd in '08 and was QB on a long TD drive vs Bama in '09. Also made a clutch 3rd and 13 pass vs Bama in '10.

2009: 4/10 44 0TD 1INT

2010 before his ONE GOOD PLAY: 3/6 20 0/0

2008: shouldn't even have to go into this. By far his worst game of all time. 13/34 181 1TD 4INT

Oh yeah, might as well throw this one in too since, you know, it was 4 games before 1/9:

2011: 3/7 24 0TD 2INT

In case you can't keep up, that's less than 50% comp and 1 TD 7 INTs for his career against Bama.

And all the "Lee would have at least given us a deep threat" guys are off too.

The single best pass play against Bama in the JJ/Lee era was a 75 yd strike OVER THE MIDDLE for a TD in 2010. Lee couldn't attack the middle of the field against Bama to save his life.

JJ also completed a 34 yarder in the GOTC that may have been a TD if Shep doesn't fall down untouched inside the 10.

And for the "the O got worse under JJ" crew that appear to have slept in the day after Thanksgiving, there was our best day of O and JJ having the best day of any LSU QB in 2011 against #3 Arkansas with the West on the line AGAIN.

Oh but that doesn't count cause TM had a punt return right?? As if the D/ST didn't do anything to assist Lee against Oregon, WV, Florida, Tennessee, or Auburn right?

Lee was not a good QB against good defenses. That is simply a fact.

For all the good he did against defenses like Oregon, WV, Tennessee, Auburn, or even Florida, Bama and UGA were on a different level in 2011.

Anyone ever consider maybe Miles & Co. saw Lee practice everyday against an elite D and knew he just wasn't up to the task??

JJ was a mediocre QB, just like Lee. But he 100% gave us the best chance to win against Alabama. Period.

Anyone who won't admit that has some other agenda.

Should mention that Peyton Manning never beat UF and Tebow never beat Auburn.

great point. if the staff had only shown the confidence in him that Peytons and Tebows coaches did he could have been every bit as good. As I always said, Lee had that fast Dan Marino type of release and skills.

They had playmakers on defense/special teams, though, and those playmakers would set the table for the offense.

and the D and ST would score as well

Not sure if anyone recalls it, but right after that game a poster broke down the passing game in great detail complete with screen shots, etc pointing this out.

It was largely met with outrage by everyone who for a couple of years had been riding Lee's jock.

If someone wants to try and dig it up, it made for a solid read at the time, and would be awesome to see today to see just who in this thread is admitting that performance wasn't great was saying it was Marinoesque at the time.

You mean, lets bring in a QB who has a history of abject failure against the team we are playing in hope that Alabama wouldn't eat Lee alive as they had done 95% of the time in has career against them?

Yeah, that's a plan to get all bent out of shape over because it wasn't used.

We missed TM7 in 2012 more than we realize, I think.

Your absolutely right! We won games by large margins bc of all the turnovers he caused.

As was JJ.

We saw the best, and the worst, of both of them.

LINK It's at 1:10 on this link

It was a good throw under pressure. I never said he hit him in stride, but if Shep can keep his feet there he definitely could have scored. The Bama DB was running past him because he was trying to make a play or the ball.

Watch play two plays later btw.

RR drops a TD in his hands on a good read and pump fake by JJ. RR just couldn't make the catch.

I've never said JJ was some All-SEC type QB. Both Lee and JJ were mediocre.

But JJ had FAR more success than Lee did against Bama, and that just isn't even a question.

The difference between Lee and Jefferson was that Lee was able to manage the game without hurting the team too much until the first Ala. game. Jefferson, however, always seemed to force the issue, thereby making bigger mistakes. He never learned how to manage the game.

Just my $0.02
