The Myth of LSU-Oregon 2011. Lee was terrible.

Just rewatched that game. Have not seen it in a long time and I could not believe how bad Lee was, how bad the offense was, and if it were not for TM7, Sam Montgomery, and Eric Reid, LSU might now win that game. Count in Mingo and Simon in that as well. The defense was really good - the offense was horrendous.
Lee missed receivers all over the field, fumbles a snap, is part of another fumbled snap (really Lonergan's fault), and threw behind receivers the whole game. He was pretty much clueless.
This is not a "bash Lee" thread, believe it or not. My point is that we remember the 2011 Tigers as dominant, and at times, they were not very good at all. They had playmakers on defense/special teams, though, and those playmakers would set the table for the offense. That is how we won tough games throughout the year. That is also what I think Les was waiting for on 1/9/12 and it never happened. We can win this year the same way, if we have to.
Fast forward to this year. LSU vs. TCU. If Mett doesn't light the world on fire from the very beginning, he is still better than Lee was. The first game will tell a lot, but it won't be the whole story. All I care about is winning and not what the team looks like in doing so. The rest will take care of itself.
Yes, I am ready for football to start.

So...how is it a myth that Lee is terrible?

People believe what they want to believe about Lee. He was a below average QB.

So what. All I'm going to say is Les was terrible for not letting Lee play in national championship instead letting tPOS Jefferson screw it up

I remember losing my shite as if it was a hail mary throw when he connected with Randle for that routine TD pass

I could have worded that better.
The myth is that Lee was great for us and that LSU was dominant in that game. We dominated the scoreboard and the 3rd quarter, but it was for the reasons mentioned above.
Lee was just not very good at all.

Lee was terrible in THAT game but pretty much every game after that, he was consistent and made some great plays. We would have not gotten that with JJ behind center in the beginning.

I know. Watching the game again it was like the pass to Randle for the TD was a miracle or something. Compared to the rest of the QB play that game and the QB play from the previous 2 seasons, I think we thought it was spectacular.

This is true ... I think.
I haven't watched the other games.
I thought that Lee did a pretty good job in the Oregon game until I watched it again. He was awful.
How good was he in the other games? Am I just comparing him to JJ?

Imagine if JJ had been the QB. QB runs stuffed at the line of scrimmage, fumbles, hold onto the ball until receivers were WAY open only to throw behind them and that "I'm lost" look in his eyes.

I'm not sure there is anyone who thought lsu's offense was dominant in that game, you're arguing against straw men

Having a "hungry" D-Line will be fun to watch
Mett will be better
Mett will be better

I really am not. We all said that LSU destroyed Oregon that game. But, it was 16-13 midway through the 3rd quarter until the D and special teams force 2 fumbles to give the offense a short field. We punch it in for 2 TDs. That and the TM7 fumble recovery/TD really made the difference. There was a good 75 yard drive or so, but it was mostly running plays.
LSU was the better team, but the way we won was really strange. We won on big plays in weird situations.
We missed TM7 in 2012 more than we realize, I think.
