The most bizarre play from yesterday - Stevens and Stingley refuse to tackle a WR.

Stevens runs away from the receiver. Stingley turns his head to the right and clearly seems the receiver with the ball, but refuses to stop to try and make a tackle. He just kept running.
This one play may tell the entire story of the defense right now. They're not giving effort, and don't seem interested in doing so. The question is why.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the play most people remember. Everyone just looks confused and resigned to a bad fate on that play.

We also have 2 lbs covering the same receiver. These guys look like they don’t give a shite at all.

Well Pelini thinks a LB can cover a slot receiver because he lines up closer to him in base packages as opposed to letting a safety handle it.

Wow that was obviously a refusal to engage

The most charitable response is that it sort of looks like Stevens is trying to cut off the angle, but I genuinely don’t know what Stingley is doing. It’s like everyone is hoping someone else will make the play. I’ve never seen a defense at this level look so baffled about coverage and gap assignment.
[edit: Stingley looks like he doesn’t even recognize that the ball carrier is coming at him...no real situational awareness, but that’s everyone involved in this play. Truly bizarre.]

That looks deliberate to me. It’s just my opinion but, this defense has quit on their coach.
The question is, do you stick with the players or do you stick with the coach? You know the old saying about allowing the inmates to run the asylum.
Is it a good life lesson to allow young men to fail to perform because they dislike their leader. How will they be successful in life if they have this attitude. Frankly, this is true of this entire generation. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Downvote away.

I honestly believe Ryan Clark influenced this

Probably had money on the over.

They are unsure of their responsibilities
Even if they were, there’s a good chance they wouldn’t be able to cover
Drinkwitz is a schematic guy. This was 2nd H. We didn’t have the ability on the sidelines to adjust at the H, much less on the fly. LOL
Brady found these mismatches and made Burrow and himself a fortune. LSU doesn’t have any chess players left

Yes he did.
We saw Missouri scheme to have the third guy out the backfield guarded by a safety of LB. If our safety or LB can’t guard a Missouri TB out of the backfield then we are in trouble. It’s even worse when the safety and LB don’t know who to guard.

That's not Stingley - it's Hampton (#14). Stingley in on the outside wr at the bottom of the screen and never comes into the picture until the guy is in the end zone.

My vote goes more toward deep ball to Tory Carter in the endzone...WTF was that???

Actually it shows them confused with lack of confidence in Pelini defense philosophy. Everyone is lost, not lining up correctly, pointing the finger at each other, & frustrated. With all this talent, Pelini really cannot get them on the same page. Pelini is past his prime and the spread offense is too much for him. Gave up 623 passing yards to Costello & MSU and 2 weeks later they bench Costello with 5 INT against Kentucky. Lost 24-2! Gave up almost 600 yards to a Freshman staring his 2nd game and with their top 3 WR's out with Covid. I don't think he survive the season.

I'm not talking about Hampton, I'm talking about Stingley. Stingley is literally in every frame of the GIF once the receiver catches the ball. He is literally staring at the WR as he caught the ball and continues running straight ahead away from the WR, instead of stopping and trying to make a tackle.
You can see him turn his head to the right on the 5 yard line, so he knows what's going on. He just refuses to try and make a play.

I vote for Clark being slow and out of position all day, then in 3rd qtr finally making his first play of the day and then show boating like his tackle just won the game.

Stingley is covering a crossing route and the WR catches the ball directly in front of him and he sees it and continues to run with his man instead of breaking off and trying to make a tackle
It’s possible he didn’t see the WR catch the pass and was looking into the backfield
