I like him better than Smoke

I can understand that take. Smoke wasn't taking the program in the right direction while Maineiri is despite his in game decision making shortcomings.

But to be honest, its likely Skip would have had Cresse swinging regardless of the score

why do you think that is..........so I guess Skip was pretty weak with in game decisions as well.

I said its likely Cresse would have hit away not that its written in stone. we'll never know because it was two entirely different situations. But even Skip can't claim to have been correct 100% of the time. Even he made mistakes.

In 1992, after Skip had won his first CWS with the LSU Tigers the year before, LSU hosted a Regional at the Box, and were eliminated by Cal St. Fullerton.

I wonder how rantards would have treated him had this site been around back then.

So, in your opinion, neither Miles nor Maineiri can manage in-game situations.

This is true. Neither are outstanding situational coaches.

Trent Johnson?

Bad hire IMO. Won't move the program along.

1) Miles doesn't do shite one way or the other except call for the spike.

2) Paul appears to be pretty damn good at what he does

3) Trent was a great basketball hire.

you're reaching bro. I'd turn the computer off for now.

I suspect if he had made questionable coaching decisions some, myself included, would have pondered the reasoning behind them.

I'm guessing this idiot didn't watch Gibbs bunt into a double play against Bama and Gaudet do the same Saturday...typical.

Yes the idiot did see their attempts. That's why in the OP he suggested pinch hitting with the best bunter available.

you don't take the bat out of your best hitter's hands with 0 outs and a runner in scoring position IMO. Then, say you pinch hit for Gibbs and even only get the one run. Then you're tied without your catcher and without your best hitter. Not exactly the best situation to be in.

Elleshoe, I usually agree with you, but PM took out Dean on Friday. Gibbs has been reeling since the end of the season, so don't know if he was our best hitter. Also, his defense has been horrible lately, but the pitchers have something to do with that as well.

Hard to take Gibbs out there. And we sucked at bunting this year. I almost liked our odds having them swing away.

I know there are two Billy Beanes. He gave no clue as to which he was referring too.

Agreed, but you need to be able to bunt. Cal Irvine did it with their best HR hitter against us on Friday on a suicide bunt no less.

This is like saying Miles needs to learn how to manage a clock. By him learning, it can only help the team. PM needs to focus on fundamentals. Hitters need to be more disciplined on their at bats and need to be able to bunt. This is not the 90's, this is not guerilla ball anymore.

Oh I agree completely. But its been evident since February that we haven't been able to bunt. So why try now?

That was to catch us more off guard than anything.

I'm convinced UCI could have told us, "We're bunting now" and we still would not have gotten the runner at the plate.

One of the things I've noticed about Paul Manieiri is that he's an honest man. If you read his quotes following a game, especially a loss, he will often second guess his own decisions. Even during a dugout interview during the SEC tourney he was honest enough to admit he had made a mistake the inning prior.

I would think, he more than anyone else, is replaying the 8th and 9th innings over and over in his mind and considering the alternatives.

My opinion, he should have bunted in both instances.

We can't bunt and that's not an excuse. It's a tragedy. Our coaches should spend all Fall teaching this and preparing us. Especially with a potentially weak pitching staff you need to be able to score anyway possible. Unacceptable at this level.
