My roommate dragged me to that regional even though I hated basketball at the time.

He's on this site--I hope he sees this thread and remembers he still owes me for the inconvenience. LOL!!!

Not going to that regional and not sitting in on one of T. Harry Williams's classes are two of my biggest personal LSU related regrets.

Of course I went as a wee lad, you mensch. Seems like around that time Ernie Grunfeld ( and maybe Bernard King?) and Tennessee played in a regional in BR too. Not sure what year.

That was Indiana's undefeated team. Great team, but I always thought Bama should have won their game against them. As usual Knight got his way with the officiating.

1977. Tennessee vs Syracuse

It was the Bernie/Earnie show vs the Louie/Bouie show. Game went into overtime with Syracuse winning.

U of Detroit coached by Dick Vitale was in that regional as well

Not too much that I can say. That was 43 yrs ago and my seats were like 2nd or 3rd row from the top. Never saw a highlight or a replay either. With these caveats the moment that always stuck with me was late in a close game. Both centers, Benson and Douglas, each had 4 fouls. At that point Douglas got his 5th on a call that I thought should have gone against Benson. Like I said I've never seen a replay, so I don't know if that opinion was legit. But neither team had depth at that position and shortly thereafter Indiana pulled away at the end. If the call is reversed, I think Bama would have pulled it off.

This said, that was a great, great Indiana team. I think they lost one game in 2 years (like a buzzer beater to Kentucky in the previous years tournament). They may still have been able to pull it off.

I might have been at that Tennessee-Syracuse game in ‘77. I would have been almost 6 so I don’t remember for sure. Can’t remember if the old man sprang for those tourney tickets and took me. I don’t think we were there in ‘76.

We had season tix for LSU hoops from about 1975-76 through the second Final Four year under Brown in ‘85-86.

I was there. Great regional. Marquette students kept acting up during National anthem. Crowd gave them hell. Al Mcguire was there coach. Leon Douglas gave them all they wanted. I remember screaming at refs(not unusual for me. Fun memories

His Civil War class was epic! Of course, most of this board full of cretins have no idea who he was or what he did.

And we'll see who's old this week!
