The also had 3 coaches and a player that went on to become NFL head coaches and a few scrubs named Steve Walsh, Cortez Kennedy, Cleveland Gary, Randall Hill and Russell Maryland who went on to become 1st Round NFL picks along with a slew of other future NFL players. LSU had Tommy Hodson and not much else. There's a reason 1988 was the worst year of Hodson's LSU career.

It Would not have mattered in that rain storm You were getting soaked with or without an umbrella. Opening an umbrella to stay dry on that night was like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

I have never, ever, seen a team so badly beaten as we were that night. In any sport. Even when we beat Tulane 62-0 three times—Tulane didn’t look that bad. The thunder in the 1st half sounded like it was coming from about 15 feet above the lights. I was dry in my infantry poncho.

As an aside, one of tthe Miami players from that night comes regularly to my office (I’m a physician). He told me Ralph Norwood hit an all-american Hurricane defensive lineman so hard the Miami player was out and when helped back to the bench told everyone who asked him for the next 10 minutes—“I’ll be all right, just get me some M&Ms. Just some M&Ms, man.” Over and over and over.

Was at this game, too. The wind was so strong at one point, that on a punt, the hike from the long-snapper was going against the wind, and didn’t reach the punter.

I remember that game and the punt snap incident. I've never sat through rain and wind that hard in my life. They brought their live mascot for that one.

I will look into it, normally a team in that era has about 75 men on the travel team at that time.

Injuries and other issue take away form the normal limit on the travel team.

I was at the game that night, but left at half time due to the rain, an a prier commitment.

Umbrellas only help when the rain is falling vertically. It was raining horizontally that night. Everybody in the stadium got soaked to the bone.

Maybe some of them got hurt roughly dressing out?

I mean, one time we had this guy come in ER with a cracked skull. He had fallen when somehow his foot got caught in his pants leg and he just fell face first into the bathtub wall. Maybe thats what happened!
