This guy got the L’ville job same year CPM came here:

- has 4 fewer wins
- 0 national titles
- same # of CWS appearances
- same # of seasons missed Regionals (although his is THIS FRICKING YEAR)
- plays in a weaker league

What is the deal? How is this an upgrade?

You think we have some magic that is going to make him have a higher ceiling here? If that’s the case, we might as well get Bianco.

Godwin needs to be #1. He’s the only one who has clearly done more with less.

You only like him bc he had a semi-b*tch session about COVID restrictions.

He’s a great coach but it is a pretty strange infatuation

One guy took over a program with one regional appearance and no interest in baseball and one guy took over a program that has the most support in college baseball and the 2nd most titles of all time.

The answer lies in recruiting

And it’s true for all of Godwin, McDonnell, or Bianco….all would start having a 1-5 class instead of a 15-20 class (30+ class in the case of Godwin)

Our fanbase likes him bc he complained about COVID restrictions. Like I said, on brand.

It’s not infatuation. You might as well get used to seeing that name in purple and gold.

To be fair, ECU had notable baseball success before Godwin.

Louisville had done nothing before McDonnell.

Both would be terrific hires.

Splitting hairs, they would all recruit better at LSU than they do at their current schools

I like McDonnell the best because he’s already shown he can make it to Omaha regularly without Top8 talent, but Godwin would do very good at LSU too. Even Bianco would do well, but I know it would be a disappointing/underwhelming hire on its face

So you're pointing out that Mainieri came to LSU (elite program with huge support), and McDonnell went to fricking Louisville, a place with no tradition, that had made exactly 1 regional in their entire history, and their resume almost matches?

You don't think that's significant?

I’m not necessarily against the guy, I just don’t think he’s the second coming. I mean he hasn’t played a game in a few weeks & he’s on year 15. Shouldn’t he have Regionals on auto-pilot by now, because Mainieri certainly does. Our worst team in the last decade just made the Sweet 16 in baseball.

McDonnell has been to 5 CWS in his 14 seasons at Louisville. Can you remind us how many CWS Godwin has been to in his 6 seasons at ECU? I'll hang up and listen.

Second coming to Bertman? Absolutely not. We will never see another Bertman in our lifetime. But I’m looking at a guy who turned a program that was absolutely nothing into a team that consistently makes it to the tourney. And he uses Bertmans methods. A lot of them. If not all.

This is the first year Louisville didn't make a Regional in 10 years. McDonnell has made a Regional 12 of his 14 years there. That's not "auto-pilot" enough for you?

Over/Under on the number of years before at least half the rant can spell his name right? Probably 6.5. The double-double consonants will give our resident scholars a difficult time.
