Why don't we practice it against the 'bad' teams and make sure it works then? Are we all of a sudden just going to magically turn it on for 300 yards passing against the best teams with no prior experience?

The LSU offense you're seeing is going to be the offense we run for the year. There isn't a secret playbook that will allow Jefferson to throw for 300 yards and 4 TDs. We're going to run the ball, let Jefferson run, and throw short to mid range passes only - just enough to keep the safeties back in coverage. We aren't going to frick up offensively (although it's inevitable with Crowton) and we will win games with defense. While there is nothing wrong with that scheme, at some point this season we will need Jefferson to step up and win us a game, I hope he will come through.

I agree with this statement and at the beginning of the year I would say that I was sucked in by the statements "JJ has taken charge and has new found confidence." I believed he was going to have a Jason Campbell like senior season.

However, after the start this year I dont think it is going to happen. It is like expecting a pitcher that has a 6.0 ERA after two seasons to all of a sudden to start pitching with a 2 or 3 ERA. The sample size has gotten large enough and I am starting to question if we will ever break out of the funk.

It really isn't fair to close the book on him under this offense. After Crowton is gone next year, we'll see how he and Lee perform.

Amazing how people can rip Miles for calling the Moo state game conservatively when Saban shut the offense down ever time he had a decent lead while he was here. Yet he is considered a freaking God.

What I find odd though about this offense, is the way Jefferson is being used. Don't you think Shepard would have been a better fit? We rely on lots of QB draws and sneaks and the dreaful option, and we only attempted 16 passes? I don't know, I'm starting to think that Shepard would have been better off utilized as a QB with the scheme we are running. Of course, I'm not making $4 million /year

The samples are horribly skewed.

The samples include a total of three games: one game is a statistical anomaly and a second game is the coaches' reaction to that anomaly.

The trend is looking better and better.

The LSU offense is coming. They're getting better. They are coming of age.

I don't understand.

There is no tooth fairy.

However, the facts tend to suggest that the LSU offense is coming. They are getting better. They are coming of age.

There is an excuse for every game. Reality suggests that time has run out on the excuses.

They are getting better, but it's all relative. Better than last year when they were almost dead last is not in fact, 'better'.

Maybe he does and that is why the following facts are too realistic.

There is another thread in this page about how we are having more fun than last year and it seems to be true. No one is claiming that on an absolute scale we have jumped from 20 to 90 percent, but we certainly have made improvements and that is a good sign.

Matt Flynn ran this offense and we were among the league leaders in offense.
I am not going to argue that I am happy with Crowton but his offense has been good before.

It has never been effective since Lee/Jefferson have taken over.

Did you even read your line before you posted . The very definition of better is a comparative relationship between two absolute or relative states - one being more than the other.

In fact you mention that we are better than last year - since we were dead then - but that is in fact not better

The 3 games this year indicate that our offense is almost identical to last years in terms of production. Until they break the trend then our offense is the same offense they were last year

Yeah, we are 115th in the country in passing and our offense is up to 91 which is definitely better than 112 or whatever our ridiculous numbers were last year.

It's not just Jefferson, the Miles/Crowton play calling is awful. But, just like the tooth fairy might exist, Miles/Crowton may have been holding back a great offensive scheme. We'll see. I certainly hope so because gee, that would be neat.

False.

This offense was not completely installed until 2008.

Not this offense. It has failed miserably at every turn.

Again, we installed the Read Option Offense in 2008.

Why is it that when the score board is shown then the reference point changes to actual "feel" and "guts" and "perceived drops"?

When someone mentioned they felt happy watching the game (using the same subjective notion) the discussion changes to stats to show why they should not be happy!

That is a fricking straw man argument. There is nothing to show (except in the mind of the rant) that we are holding back great offensive schemes or plans.

... and yes if they did indeed have it it would be swell!

Dude! You are preaching to the choir, that was exactly my point (and the tooth fairy analogy).

We aren't holding back shite. WYSIWYG. It is the beauty of the Miles/Crowton offense.
