according to a lawyer bud, this was similar to the Scam Newton saga, the tapes exist, it's just that there is no way the Feds would hand them over to the NCAA, and they're such pussies that they wouldn't pursuit it if it would incriminate some of the "blue bloods"

The simple fact is, OBJ was just being reckless, sure he was intoxicated, but doing what he did was out in the open and totally reckless and cannot be denied.
What Wade got "caught" for is going on rampantly throughout college basketball, he just happened to be one of the few they got conversations taped with. Look at Arizona, Kansas, Auburn, Oklahoma State, USC, etc all caught up in it. Not to mention even pretty clear allegations Duke through back channels got Zion Williamson paid from Nike to go to Duke.
Fact is there's not a big program out there that's not doing exactly what Wade and many others are. So frankly, as long as Wade is untouched, IDGAF. He was merely doing what all these other programs are doing in the dirty world of basketball recruiting, and not doing it on national tv in front of everyone to see if you get the drift.

If you can't beat em, join em. You simply can't have an elite basketball program without bending the rules.
And that's why most defend Wade. He's doing what the other top programs do.
OBJ has other characteristics that exacerbate the money thing. For one, being a rabid attention whore. Wade wants to win games.
