Henderson would be my hire. Karr kid so maybe put Frank on him and see if he wants to come back to the boot.

He's a Co-defensive coordinator, he's not taking a demotion even if we would offer him more $

Kyle Williams made almost $60 million in his NFL career. It’s one thing to go back home and coach at your high school alma mater (I’m pretty sure he left his Ruston High gig to pursue other business interests—that will likely keep him more on the Squire Creek course), but he’s made way too much money to put in the hours it takes to be a college coach, especially in today’s era of college football.

Maybe you should let Kyle know you made the decision he wasn't accepting the job

No doubt I whiffed on this. But this is an anomaly, and I obviously underestimated his desire to coach at a higher level. It takes a special person to agree to the grind of being an assistant coach at the college level when 1) they made close to $60 million in an NFL career and still gets a very handsome pension and lifetime benefits for his family. And 2) someone who go is an avid golfer, and was a member at maybe the best course in the state in his hometown.

But I don’t know Kyle or his motivations. But I don’t think you’re gonna see a ton of people in his situation, with his money, take these kind of gigs unless he just really caught the coaching bug at Ruston, and it went from wanting to help his high school alma mater and is now driven to maybe succeed at the highest level of coaching as a competitor. I can’t imagine he’s the kind of guy who wouldn’t have saved and invested his money extremely well.

I was wrong, but am more than happy to be. But, again, I think this is an outlier. Most guys with money like that have to extremely motivated by things besides money. Which is great for LSU. I think he’ll be great. Very excited. I do wonder about him grinding on the recruiting trail like a typical college position coach. But with all the new general manager type positions in college, NIL being such a huge factor now, I bet BK worked something out with him where he’s not gonna on the road in BFE Mississippi on a random Tuesday afternoon in May. I think he’ll do a lot of recruiting on campus, via phone/ text/zoom/Facetime and will pick his spots on when he decides to actually do home visits.

We’ll see how it plays out. Again, I whiffed on this. Very happy to have been.

Nice of you to eat crow in your response. Downvote for your original take. It was that bad!

You keep talking about him being motivated by money, most coaches aren't motivated solely by money. They're in it for the competition and because it's what they know.

For every coordinator or head coach making millions, there are tens of analysts and position coaches (at the lower levels), making peanuts.

This is why all of the talk about BK coming here to coast on a "retirement plan" is ridiculous. The dude was already set for life financially, he's here to win a natty for his legacy/ego.

Think about someone like Paul Mainieri, I certainly doubt he really needs to make more money.

I agreed with you. Didn’t post it, but I think it’s unusual for a guy with a ton of money to be willing to work that hard for a lot less than he used to make.

I will say that Kyle Williams, while he is very comfortable, is not super rich. You pay ordinary income tax on that $60 million, plus agents’ fees and training costs, so there goes about $35 million. Then you had 13 years of living expenses, so maybe he has $20 million left, maybe more if he invested carefully. That’s a lot, but it’s not private jet money.

Anyway, I’m glad that’s settled and we have him.

I hope Kyle Williams works out but we had to settle for our last choice and got rejected by the other candidates we interviewed. This statement by Pete Jenkins is just not true.

I don't know you so I looked through some of your post history, I'll go with Jenkins on this one.
