They gave cook a flop warning but as soon as he moves his feet, they will call a block.

It's not hard to take the contact.

It’s a point of emphasis this year for the officials.

The first one that they called a block on though should’ve been a no call. Not enough contact for a charge; but definitely not a block or flop. The one he got the warning on was a definite flop.

The flop is something that used to be a technical foul at one time.

Maybe homerism, but I thought the first one was closer to a charge than a block.

my whole thing though is that he was bracing himself for contact and didn't want to move his feet bc then it will be called a block. IDK how an undersized guard is supposed to defend down on block.

If it had to be called anything, then yes, I would agree with you that it should be a charge. It definitely should not have been called a block. I think they did so only b/c they felt Cook flopped.

However, ultimately this should have been a no call. There was not enough contact for a charge as Cook started falling backwards before the contact came; but contact definitely was made.

I used to play with a guy that was so good at flopping. He would start going down right before a guy got to him and made contact; but he would do it at such a razor thin margin that it always appeared as though he was getting hit. Would take charges left and right without the abuse of actually getting hit by one.

I think because he started falling backwards before contact was actually made. At least that is the way it looked on TV

my thoughts as well. no way it should ever have been a block because the ball handler ran directly into cook...doesn't matter if cook is moving backwards or not

He was moving backwards before any contact was even made.
The ref could see that and whistled against it.
It was actually a good call.
Now had Jalen stood there and let the contact knock him down - he wouldn't drawn the charge.
It was because he was moving backwards before contact was even made.

That's exactly what happened. That was on Cook, he was in perfect position but started falling back before contact. Made it easy for the ref.
