No disrespect to Bo Rein, but he only coached 4 years and went 27-18. Honest question, why does everyone say he would’ve been a multi-winning national championship coach?

Saban was 34-24-1 in 5 years at MSU when we hired him.

And Saban wasn’t one of the hottest commodities out there at the time. But Bo Rein was THE HOT COMMODITY at the time. Everyone wanted the guy…and we got him. He was way ahead of the times. Having success at NC St in football much more impressive than at Mich St.

It’s spelled “Arnsparger.”

He was HC at NC State. Not exactly a CFB powerhouse where coaches historically won big.

Good comparison that Rein was that time's Nick Saban but for his offensive "genius" instead of defense.

We would have won multiple championships under Bo Rein.

He was Saban before Saban.

His Offense was ahead of its time and he demanded perfection.

Damn shame we didn't get to experience it.

Did you play football at LSU ?

I have a great friend I play golf with that played during this time and he has made same statement numerous times.

Bill Arnsparger did not "fizzle out" during his time at LSU. On the contrary, his third (and last) team here went to the Sugar Bowl.

His sin came on his way out the door to become AD at Florida, when he recommended Mike Archer as his replacement.

I feel like the position lends itself to driving coaches to egomania

Eta: Saban took it and ran

Bill Arnsbarger in football and it's not close imo. The prior success with Shula and the Dolphins, 4 super bowl appearances, the No-Name Defense, having been an NFL head coach, etc. And he was SEC coach of the year twice in his 3 years at LSU, leaving for the Florida AD job due to his judgement that bad press about the basketball team and Dale Brown could kill recruiting...probably combined with other reasons.
