The Bigger the Stage, the Bigger the Embarrassment Miles is to LSU on the Field

What occurred this past Saturday should be no surprise to LSU fans who look back at Les Miles coaching history while at LSU. With the exception of 2 on the field performances, Les has been a complete embarrassment when the state needed him most and the light shined brightest on LSU. The 2 exceptions were the 2007 NC game and the 2007 UF home game. Other than those 2 games, Les has done more to embarrass LSU ON THE FIELD than help it when the light shined brightest. Before I get hammered by his supporters, lets review:

2005: Miles completely falls flat on his face by giving up a 21 point lead, at home, on the first ever Monday night game. This was the first home game after hurricane Katrina/Rita and the whole country was rooting for us.

2006: Squandered one of the most talented teams LSU ever had by deciding to run 2 freshman against a stout Auburn defense, rather than use JM, Doucet, Davis and Bowe.

2007: Lost to Kentucky and Arkansas when he had far superior talent. Any other year and it would have cost us a chance at the title but he got lucky.

2011: Going undefeated in to the NC game and he completely embarrassed LSU by not having a back up plan to his offensive game calling. Once it was shut down, he had no answers. Most embarrassing moment as an LSU fan.

2012: He had let chief and Brick get away with being lazy on the recruiting trail and as a result, we had no defense to go along with Mett, Hill, Landry and Beckham.

2015: He has a once in a lifetime running back that is on track for a Heisman. Leonard is in the lead and only needs to get past Bama to get the award but instead, his pathetic game plan and inability to change allows Fournette to get shut down while Henry destroys us. In one game, he killed all chances of Fournette ever winning a Heisman while giving Henry the inside track to the Heisman.

2016: A once in a lifetime venue at Lambeau squandered by his stubbornness to change.

1 other fact to point out, when was the last time LSU won as an underdog? Isn't that the sign of a good coach is when he can win in spite of his deficiencies?

Les has done more to hurt LSU, on the field, than he has ever done to help it. While he was a great ambassador off the field, his on the field product has hurt us more when the spotlight shined brightest. That is the sign of a mediocrity at best which is exactly what Les has brought to LSU. You cant argue with facts and no coach has done Less with more since 2007 than Les Miles.

In short, fire Les for incompetence.

Ok I am on record as wanting Miles gone as much as anyone.

But the 2005 loss to Tennessee is probably to most forgivable loss in the Les Mikes Era.

The fact that the team was even able to play that game and then still go on the win the West was probably the best coaching he has done at LSU.

Get over that one. The 2010 WIN against Tennnessee was much much worse.

Forgive him for that??? We had a 21-23point lead at half time? He tried to milk to click the whole 2nd half with predictable run run pass. He lost that game with ignorant play calling and nothing else. That had nothing to do with the outside conditions but everything to do with piss poor game calling.

Again I hate defending this clown, but to still be pissed off about an early season loss 11 years ago in a season when we only lost 1 regular season game and won the division is just fricking stupid.

Losses like that happen and given the circumstances surrounding that game, it is entirely forgivable.

Let's not ignore what transpired between these seasons.

2008? 5 losses.

2009? 4 losses.

2010? Needed a last minute stand to beat UNC, which turned out to be a 5 loss team in the ACC.

2014? Another 4 losses, including a bowl loss to Notre Dame.

Then you have the 2007 miracle TD throw to beat Auburn with 1 second left, which could have easily been incomplete with no time left on the clock.

You have the miracle victory over an unranked Tennessee team in 2010, when the game was on the line with 30 seconds left, and we could barely get the ball snapped.

You have the botched time management at the end of the Ole Miss game in 2009.

The list goes on.

He's an average coach. Period. There is no other way to spin this. He's never been an elite coach, and it's stunning that it's taken fans this long to figure it out.

When you put it like this..

You may have point..

I hate how embarrassing it has been. I really hate how non competitive we are in some big time losses now too.

I was at that game. Once he got the lead, he quit trying to move the ball and his defense ended up staying on the field the whole time. Katrina didn't wear them out - Les Miles did!!!

I have no issue with calling out his mistakes but at least get them right. If Byrd doesn't catch that ball, they still had 2 seconds left and were in FG range. I disagree with how he managed the end of the game but it's not a miracle that LSU won the game.

If you watched that game and HOW WE LOST, it's not forgivable. Go back and watch it.

I know it had nothing to do with getting us to the SEC title but I'm referring to the spot light of THAT GAME and what it meant to LSU fans. It was the first home game and the only CFB game on that night. The whole Country was watching and it was our first home game. Miles lost that game for us with his stubborn ways. The conditions of Katrina had nothing to do with it.

Every point is spot on. Too many have confused the good qualities of Les the man with the ineffectiveness of Les the coach.

This is reason right here why he should have been fired last year. He and his team quit against Bama, Arkansas (totally unforgivable), and Ole Miss.

Big time embarrassment. Got 2 co-workers from Wisconsin giving me hell. Finally told them just STFU or I'll do it for them in 2 weeks at our conference. They don't understand how serious we take LSU football but are about to find out!

The Arkansas game last year was the absolute icing on the cake for me with Miles.

Bailed out by Dooley being more incompetent. Bailed out by Rich Rod's WV loss to Pitt. The fake fg at fla was a lucky as hell bouce. "Clock it", "the end of 2010 Tennessee", 21 pt lead squandered at home in 05, not to mention a to after a turnover. The 05 arse kicking by UGA in the seccg. The 06 team- nuff said. The Arkansas thrashings. Hell, just how many times can you remember burning precious timeout throughout his tenure? Saturday was just an exhibition for Wisky fans and the entire big 10 to see what we are sick of. Not one Wisky fan I talked to expected a win. They all said they just wanted to keep it close. Not even the drunkest, most obnoxious brat eating student expected them to be in the game.
