Probably already posted as an observation but Florida games will always be a priority because of having the biggest television markets in the SEC.
If UF is good, they will selected for the prime time spot. The past two years it was UF v Bama, in 2008 it was either us v UF or Bama v UGA (another big TV market), In 2007 it was UF v LSU.

Not sure about '09.

Point is prime time is still about ratings.

I asked this is another thread. How can ESPN show the Bama/Ole Miss game at 5pm when the LSU/Tenn game is on CBS at 2:30. You know the LSU game will just be starting the 3rd quarter with all the TV timeouts. WOuldn't that violate the "provision" of a game beign telecast at the same time.

ESPN can start a SEC game after the 2:30 game on CBS has started. Not exactly sure the provision but I believe it can't start before 5:00. 5:00 and after is fine.

the fact is that the $EC negociated a contract that was clearly detrimental to a major aspect of what has always made gameday and 'saturday nite in death valley' so fricking special.

No, the fact is that LSU is one out of twelve schools in the SEC.

Most of the schools in the SEC traditionally kick off home games during the day, not nightime.

I can link you to multiple articles where Georgia fans bitch about the SEC's new contract with ESPN that has led to Georgia playing more night games.

I can guarantee you that if most SEC schools preferred to play at night, then the SEC would have preferred that the top billing be giving to night games. But since most schools in the SEC prefer day games, CBS elected for the 2:30 slot.

It's not that hard to figure out.

The SEC and CBS don't hate LSU.

Majority rules. LSU wants to get SEC revenue, then LSU has to work with the other 11 schools when it comes to the TV contract. We don't get to dictate to everyone else. That's not how a conference works.

We should all be happy that LSU was able to get the white jerseys at home rule changed. Georgia Tech is the only other school I know of that has a white jersey tradition.

But the way you get other schools to consider accommodating your school's highly esteemed traditions isn't by starting some douchey, whiny arse petition and bitching that the SEC and CBS hate us.

You think ESPN would be happy if CBS started broadcasting more SEC games in primetime?

The SEC is trying to make both CBS and ESPN happy to maximize the potential revenue which all SEC schools equally share.

I don't know what that concept seems so elusive to many of you folks.

CBS and ESPN both want exclusivity in their respective time slots. And the SEC benefits because there is a nationally televised SEC game on TV every Saturday from 2:30 CT until 11 pm. And regionally, the SEC Network is on starting at 11:30. No other conference has as much national exposure. I live in Oregon and it's far easier to watch the SEC than say the B1G which has to compete with the Pac 12 and Big XII on a regional basis (ABC/ESPN).

Well, there are 18 million people in the state of Florida and UF has a huge enrollment and therefore lots of alumni so that makes sense. They also have a significant national bandwagon from their success in the 90s and 2000s.

I would say that on a national basis, Florida and Bama are hands down the best rating draw. Clearly LSU must be doing well nationally though to get on CBS so many games in a row.

We should take it a high compliment that CBS thought LSU would be a better ratings draw than Alabama/Tennessee. If Bray had not got injured, I figured it was the lock of the year that CBS would want that game. I'm still a little surprised they didn't...

Exactly!

My disappointment lies in the fact that the LSU officials never addressed the issue of night games when the contract was drawn up in the first place.

Why does CBS only do 1 night game per year? Does it make more ratings sense to do a night game on CBS EVERY week? (I have no idea what sort of ratings they pull in on a normal Saturday night in the 7-10 pm time slot.)

ratings = money. money is the only factor.

The networks do not get paid on a per rating point basis. The sell the ads based on long term rating trends not what 1 particular game may or may not get. slight variations from one game to the next do not affect the income for the game for the network. They are obviously happier with the ratings they get at 230 than what they think they can get in prime time.

don't you think they people that make those decisions know what will get better ratings and make more revenue and make their decisions accordingly? Its not like the games at 230 have no viewers. Maybe their expirence shows 230 gets BETTER ratings or ratings that are good enough for them to keep it the way it is. Just cause LSU fans don't like having home games at 230 does not mean that overall the 230 slot does better for CBS. I would think its obvious that the people at CBS feel they do better finacially having CFB at 230 and their regular shows on in prime time.

Typically Friday and Saturday nights are the worst nights for TV ratings.

Because that is all they are contractually authorized to broadcast. The remainder of the SEC prime time games belong to ESPN.

Because ESPN has exclusivity at night.

If CBS does more night games, that means they would be cannibalizing ESPN's night SEC games.

CBS + ESPN = a big shitpot of money for every school in the SEC

LSU gets one vote out of 12 and the number of schools that favor night games is the MINORITY.

If LSU wants to play every game at night, go the Notre Dame route and become an independent and see if NBC will broadcast every LSU game in primetime.

Until then, we are a member of a conference with 11 other teams and most of those teams traditionally play home games during the day. That is called reality.

But the question is, did they even vote? IMO, no. Because the LSU administration is full of pussies.

ESPN has rights to every SEC home football game not on the network package (CBS) and all league matchups will be shown on some outlet, including at least 20 a year on ESPN or ESPN2. That includes two primetime Thursday night matchups and Saturday night games.

What I get from this is the bullshite we have heard over the years from LSU officials.

( we will never have a home football game on thursday night, because of classes and such its impossible ) Mark it down LSU will play a thursday night home sooner or later.

You're right.

LSU's administration should grow some balls and threaten to leave the SEC if the TV contract doesn't guarantee LSU at least 2 night games every season.

This is a matter of utmost urgency.

I think the only pussies are the people in our fanbase bitching and whining about playing day games.

You should be fricking ecstatic that our team is highly ranked and has a damn good shot at going undefeated for the first time since 1958.

Instead, all I hear is...

I don't give a shite. I want night games. They are way more fun. It allows for alot of what makes LSU football fans so passionate. We love the tailgaiting. Nobody does it better. NOBODY. We need the 12 hrs to get ready. To visit with our friends. We want to do this in a long drawn out fashion before the game starts. Then it is night time. We are cranked. We are loud and voracious.

I dont give a shite. BRING BACK THE NIGHT GAMES.

I thought that the Lee/JJ controversy brought all of the idiots out of the woodwork.

That was nothing compared to this.

A bunch of moronic farmers, praying for rain and then cursing at the sky because they're getting wet.
