The Athletic 1st Team All Americans

QB Joe Burrow, Sr., LSU: As the unanimous winner of The Athletic’s 51-person staff Heisman poll, Burrow is an easy choice as the first-team All-American quarterback. The Ohio State transfer transformed his game in his second season at LSU, completing 77.9 percent of his passes (on pace to be the FBS record) for 4,715 yards, 48 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He’s completed at least 71.1 percent of his throws in all 13 games — all wins for the unbeaten No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff.
Recruiting background (via the 247Sports Composite Rankings): four-star prospect in 2015 class from Athens (Ohio) High; signed with Ohio State and transferred to LSU for 2018 season
WR Ja’Marr Chase, Soph., LSU: Chase and teammate Justin Jefferson are both worthy of consideration, but the edge goes to Chase, who leads the FBS in receiving yards per game (124.8). Chase averages 20.5 yards per catch and leads the nation with 18 touchdowns and 29 receptions of 20-plus yards.
Recruiting background: four-star prospect in 2018 class from Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel; national top-100 recruit
OG Damien Lewis, Sr., LSU: The top player on one of the nation’s best offensive lines, the 332-pound Lewis became a starter as a junior college transfer last season and has emerged as a powerful force for the much-improved Tigers offense.
Recruiting background: three-star prospect in 2018 class from Northwest Mississippi CC; unranked out of Canton (Miss.) High in 2016 class as a defensive tackle
CB Derek Stingley Jr., Fr., LSU: The true freshman appears ready for the pros now. Though he’s given up a few big plays, Stingley has made more himself, leading the SEC in both interceptions (six) and pass breakups (15). He has been targeted a lot but has given up just 31 catches on those 85 targets, according to Sports Info Solutions.
Recruiting background: five-star prospect in 2019 class from Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School; national top-five recruit

Wow—what a story. Get you some money, young man.

No offense but Lewis got blown up by Derrick brown. To be fair everyone did. If anyone I feel like Cush Should be recognized as our best o lineman.

I think the draft will prove how good Damien Lewis is

Damien Lewis will prove how good of a player he is and will become... not his draft position.

Cush is first team on Coaches, Lewis first team here. both had great years. D. Brown was the defensive player of the year in the SEC Coaches team, so, tip your hat to him.

Nice job discrediting an All-American OL.
I’m sure your post felt important to you.

What’s that have to do with being a College All-American?
Christ, some of you are insufferable

I've been saying that the O line needs to be getting more respect. There is no way you can have an offense that performs at the level we have been performing at without elite O line play. They have played so great AS A UNIT this year that no one guy (other than Lewis) is getting any recognition. But, Cush as the QB of the line, should get more because he has been the glue on a unit that has been mix and match for much of the season. Major props to Cush and James Cregg for their performance this year.
Think about Lewis and Cush, neither of whom arrived with much fanfare. Cushenberry arrived on campus similar to Justin Jefferson, most people were wondering why they were even given legitimate offers. Now, they are two of the most important cogs in the single greatest offensive season in LSU and SEC history, along with Clyde, who most people thought got an offer just because of his good buddy, Derrius Guice, and Joe Burrow, who as we all know, was not thought to be the answer at Ohio State. Also, how about some props for Adrian Magee, who has been more than serviceable when no one thought he would even see the field this year.

Man Fulton is getting snubbed on a lot of lists. He’s the truth

I'm willing to bet Joe gives the entire OL a lot of credit up on the stage in NY on Saturday night.
The trench men are the last to get credit and first to get blamed. They've been serving pancakes all season long.

QB's barely looked Fulton's way! That's the nature of a lock down corner. College Football penalize DB's because QB's are scared to throw there way. But the upside, is that pro scouts recognize it! And that's why Fulton is a 1st round draft pick!

And K’Lavion made Georgia’s first team all American tackle look silly... happens to the best offensive lineman from time to time/

I’m assuming you didn’t see his interview after the SEC championship when Tebow asked him who’d he thank first when he won the Heisman.
No one would take that bet

Fulton is a big part of the reason Stingley is getting this award. They thought they were better off throwing at Stingley’s side then Fulton’s that is how good Fulton is.

I agree...but a nice consolation is the NFL is certainly paying attention
