Mett is not the problem, and it was this board that coined him the Mettsiah. Recievers have underachieved and the injuries on the O-line have hurt more IMO than losing the Honey Badger. Hell he probably wouldn't have made the whole season anyway.

Pay attention. We are on the threshold of the game Tiger fans have anticipated since 1/9. Early this year, almost every personnel loss was mitigated by "an upgrade" in talent or more experience.

No one would have forecasted then that we would be a 8-10 pt underdog at home (I doubt even the biggest Bama homer would have realistically expected that then). It's a good question.

Now back to the OP . . .

IMO, there are a handful of factors with various weight:
1) Player losses that haven't been filled at all (RR, Brooks)
2) Injuries (e.g., Faulk and other OL)
3) Underperforming (e.g., OBJ)
4) Suspensions/ineligibles (TM7, Tahj)
5) Coaching philosophy - we had a five game preseason to really accelerate the development of the passing game and we mostly squandered it. We could have used those games better than we did.

I honestly thought we would have no problem going 14-0.

Really? I hoped for a run at the championship but no problem is a stretch.

What happened to the team that everyone on this site said would be better than last years team?

1. What the frick is the point of this thread and what do you hope to achieve?

2. we have what, 8-9 projected starters out from August. That's a place to start.

The agenda of threads like this is fairly obvious. A win Saturday will quiet them down for a while, but they'll be back.

I see the OP as a legitimate question. So what was his supposed agenda?

And it looks like people have different reasons for why LSU isnt as good as last year so far. There are too many things that can ruin a team that happened to LSU. Its hard to pick #1 reason. I think its because of no leaders. It wouldnt matter what kind of O-line we had, Mett just isnt that good. I would put QB play before injuries.
Here's my order.
1. No leaders
2. QB play
3. injuries
4. losing TM7
5. Coach play calling

next years team is always better. all that hype from the incoming recruits and many fans "plug in" the rookies and assume they are as good or better than the seniors leaving. and, in our case, we had a problem position in qb and the second string qb is always the best. having said that, i REALLY think next years team will be better than this years because we will have lots more experience. i don't think we lose as many and as key players as we did this past year.

Our Offense is honestly about the same except we don't convert in the redzone and more turnovers\penalties than usual

Does not compute

Injuries
Mett's play
Loss of the team's best player/spiritual leader.

It's not rocket surgery.

No team can sustain losing 8 starters. Not one.

Mett is not the problem for all you idiots out there that think this. More on our oline and wr's not running right routes and dropping balls. Mett over threw a few balls week before last but besides that he has thrown well. And those 2 wr routes you speak of are not because thats all he can throw to moron its to max protect him leaving only 2 wr's because we have young guys on olineu mett is a good qb not great yet but it is his first year and with all the above said problems i think he has played damn strong football

loss of players is pretty much it. We lost three starters on the o line, Hurst, Wiliford and Faulk. Mathieu was a big loss on D and Special Teams.

Every team is only as good as its o-line and d-line.
O-line has been the biggest problem, and has led to the ultra conservative offense.

O-Line play

And WR play - we have a bunch of slot-sized receivers but we hardly run a play that has a slot receiver. A lot of iso two WR.

And Mett was too overhyped, which was not his fault.

Jordan Jefferson would pass for less than 100 yards multiple times with a better o line and better WRs with more starts. People need to be a little more patient with Mett. He has the talent. If he played for bama, I believe he would be great.

The biggest difficulty is the fact we had an undefeated regular season last year. Do you know how hard that is to duplicate? It just rarely happens. Too many factors come into play...as we have seen this year. There is no sure thing. If you're looking for actual on the field reasons.....Honey Badger. His playmaking, game changing abilities were once in a life-time. You don't lose that and go on like nothing happened. That spark is desperately missing.
