When he’s on, his stuff is electric. He’s just so erratic when things go just a little bit wrong. I really hope he can get it under control because he could be game changing if he does.

He's a contact pitcher trying to pitch for strikeouts.

And he has to stay in windup not stretch.

Well he can tally up the strikeouts when he can control his fastball and off speed. He becomes a contact pitcher when he’s wild and can only throw fastballs

He needs a favorable zone

If the Ump Squeezes him he falls apart.

It seems like he tries too hard since he has gotten here. He has not found his command yet since his injury. You can see the potential he has but he presses.

100% false. 48 strikeouts in 34 innings last year, and had an 11k performance already this year.

He is a strikeout pitcher, who's trying to do what he's always done, but he has suddenly lost bite on his slider, and control of really anything. He's not following through on his delivery, and everything is flat as a result. He's opening up up way too soon on his release. Nothing he hasn't been told, surely.

Which is exactly why he's not a strikeout pitcher now.

Don't try to play that game. You and I both know you weren't talking about right now. You think he's just not a strikeout pitcher, and therefore shouldn't be trying to strike guys out, otherwise, why would you bother saying that? If Jacob deGrom or Spencer Strider suddenly lost control, no one would say "why are they trying to strike people out? They're contact pitchers". Clearly, everyone would just say that they're struggling.

So Hurd is struggling, and you want him to pitch to contact? With what? A sinker that he doesn't throw? He's trying to execute his pitches, whether it leads to soft contact or a strikeout. That's it. It's not complicated. Because he can't get the bite, he's not going to have any success, until he figures it out. And the only way to figure it out is to keep trying to make his pitches.

Ben calling out the difference in his command from the stretch was spot on.

He also allows himself to get sped up too much when innings get tough/long.

I think his issues are both mental and physical.

We need him to be that dependable #3 with that electric stuff. IF he becomes consistent the team just becomes harder to beat in any series or tournament format. Lets GEAUX TH!
