Through 2 games against VMI and Stony Brook:
7IP 9.00 ERA 12K 11H 5BB

Less than ideal for a guy who CJJ said he expects to be our Friday night guy. Especially when these numbers posted are against 2 lower tier programs

We got to give him more time to settle in. He was a big part of last year.

Holman and jump will pass him by SEC play. Will settle into Sunday role similar to last year. All good. He’s still one of our best.

Move him to the bullpen or Sunday starter. He’s not Friday night conference play material. We’ll be down a game almost every weekend if we keep him as the first game of every series.

See what Anderson can do then move Hurd to the pen. Jump holman then Anderson. His stats this year are on par to his stats last year

Need a guy on Friday who can eat up innings and give us a chance against the other teams ace. Like I said in the game thread, with Hurd you don’t know which Hurd you are going to get. Wasn’t there a game last year he started and didn’t record an out? He seems like a perfect candidate for our Sunday starter imo. You would be rolling out a guy on Sundays who has elite stuff and could be a Friday starter or it could be a bullpen day if he struggles. Just my opinion.

Lacks moxie

Right now doesn’t have it in his ballsack to be the guy.

Still think he’s important but not the front runner.

Big fan of the player , seems like he struggles finding consistency. This season aside I hope he figures it out for his sake. Be a shame if he didnt. Immense talent.

You can’t “settle in” as a Friday starter. Move him to Sunday if you want him to settle in. We don’t have time for this type of performance on Friday.

He got ENIGMA written all over him. I just don’t think he’s a great pitcher this year . Again the movement is gone. Slider was sharp Fastball had rise last year. Both gone.

Jay said last year to win an NC Hurd needs to be in the weekend rotation. Same applies this year. If you want to reach your ceiling you have to let your high potential guys struggle through it. We go through this every season. How do yall not understand this concept yet

I understand but there is always a breaking point. Losing on Fridays before conference play is not exactly the best way to go about things. We’ll see what Jay’s breaking point is. Or maybe Hurd will improve from here. We’ll see.

That’s not why lsu won the NC last year.

Hurd was maybe reason 8 or 9.

He’s a liability right now, I know everyone hopes he can turn it around. Ump squeezed him today, but he has to overcome that

It's gonna be interesting to see how this shakes out. Hurds either going to step up like he did at the end of last year. Or struggle like he did a bunch of last year.

If he does struggle hes gonna to have to step back to the Sunday starter. Which would be a good spot for him if that's how it shakes out. He has good stuff when he's really on and could be clutch in some games.

He was fine today. Had one bad inning and settled in afterwards. Needs to keep his pitch count down but he was fine today.

I’ll agree the sample size isn’t quite there to rule him out as the Friday guy, but, he’s got 1-2 more games.

Both CPM and CJJ's breaking point wasn't until mid-late April. They aren't drawing many conclusions from these 2 games. Hurd didn't get it going until the last SEC series of the year last season vs UGA

Great point. That's exactly what got him in funks last year. He would be pitching along fine and then a bad call would get him out his groove and he couldn't throw a strike. When he had a lot of confidence at the end of last year he was able to overcome it and throw some great stuff.

One thing for sure is the SEC strike zone is going to be bullshite again this year. Hurds going to have to overcome that.
