You apparently cared enough to respond to the first person that correctly called you out for it and again when I did, so I don't know who you're trying to convince.

He's an edge corner. He doesn't play well in the slot and many others-along with Savion-evidently don't see that changing. I disagree with the idea that he'd play alot because if you aren't productive where they put you then you will see your PT impacted.

So no, PT is the complaint. Your tack-intentional or not-is to reframe the debate. This is almost assuredly about PT. He doesn't need to play in the slot in college to position himself as a professional. Unfortunately, LSU needs him to play there and/or requires him to do so if he wants to play.

So you're saying the issue is he's better on the edge, but only (maybe) has the opportunity to play nickel this year?

Why/how is that the assumption?
If he's better on the edge he'd be second team behind DJ and KT, and still get plenty of PT.
Be a starter next year most likely.

If he's not better than the current/younger backups at that position then maybe edge is NOT his calling? He competes for significant time at nickel and they re-evaluate next year.

Either way, I think he would've gotten PT this year at one position or the other, and eventually move into whichever he is best at.

Showing scouts the flexibility to play multiple roles in the backfield is not a negative. Obviously you'll be more natural at one, and they'll take that into account.

Besides, more playing time doesn't mean you're going to get drafted higher. If you can't beat out the guys at DBU why would you expect the competition to be less in the NFL regardless of the route you take?

And also.. I wholeheartedly agree with OP.

It took Duke and Debo 3 or 4 games to become two of my favorite Tigers. High hopes that Donnie will be just as successful.

FWIW these student athletes owe you nothing and can do as they please to put themselves in the best position to make money for their next step in their careers

I agree with your appreciation for those that stick it out though

That's what this was supposed to be about. Giving credit to the ones that actually put the time in...Not turning into a Saivion Smith bashing.

I'm not trying to convince anybody. It's your opinion if you believe me or not.

I appreciate your insights and level tone.

However, the rationalization you present still troubles me.

A fair (I think) characterization of this would be that he wasn't ready to supplant 1 and 2 outside, but was asked to help his team by playing the slot. Rather than do what the coaches asked of him this year and wait a year to go outside, he was more concerned with not playing well enough to get a chance to play outside. So the answer is to leave?

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement of Savion as a teammate or, if you are an NFL GM, draft pick.

Just because it's logical doesn't make it smart or right.
