it's not really a prevent thing as much as the Jalens don't look particularly adept at playing zone
this. i think it just comes with the youth. probably only played man in hs, and zone is adjustment for some guys. plus just like an O line jelling it requires your secondary to work together well.

Man I couldn't agree more. We showed against bama we have the best defense In the country. Week in and week out our defense ruins every offensive gameplan thrown at them. And then when all we have to do is let our d get out there and play the same way they have been playing, we go into this conservative crap. My question is does les have some sort of influence on this? That prevent made aj mccarron have a huge story and handed bama a victory. And all that noise about mcarron being great for that drive. That's nonsense. The media should have bashed the entire lsu coaching staff and not credited bama so much. Don't get me wrong I hate people who want les fired. He just needs to be a little less stubborn. Lsu had the superstar complex just like USC this year. I think a lot of players thought they would steamroll everyone to bama.

New DB coach and new techniques are still being coached. That being said the Safety play this year has jumped off the cliff, the CB play has been outstanding except for Simon.
Before this season everyone was so high on him and thought he would be gone in the first round. I tried to explain to ppl why he wouldn't and ppl jumped down my throat. I guess I was right.

but im sorry I will not agree that a soft zone is a prevent.
I did not say they were the same. What I said is that you are harping on the verbiage, when the issue is that LSU is allowing teams to make their way down the field while in this defense...call it whatever you like.

yeah if anything this year our LB play has ascended and our secondary descended but they are all still pretty damn good.

Exactly. Not to throw stones, but the young guys just didnt execute. I agree that they probably just werent accustomed to a zone, frankly we dont play THAT much of it.

What I am saying is that it's not the scheme, it's the execution.

the same could be said for the offense this year. LSU has played a butt load of freshmen this yr. it's par for the course.
there's a reason people make a big deal about freshmen who play really well at least consistently well, because its not the norm .

The plan was to play the prevent, if Moo State scores, they score. We get the onside kick, run the ball up the middle to kill clock and punt.
A 2 possession lead it like a 40pt lead to Miles, he just wants to maintain the lead. I like Miles but he is the king of "take the foot off the gas".............Ill never understand why we dont go out there to beat the shite out of the other team and make a statement.

Did you watch the first 10 games of last season?

If its intended to hand out chunks of yards and a score within 60 secs, then its working.
We play defense like we have all game we beat USCe 24-14, aTm 24-12, and Alabama 17-14. Also JFF under 200 passing and McCarron under 100 passing.

I did, and I loved them but our defense and special teams scored alot of those points.

I totally agree with The MICK! Chavis lost the game against Bama!!! I wish he would learn how u play the prevent, u don't play with a 15 yrd. cushion! He should man up & try to play noise up on the receivers than the prevent! All though I doubt he will ever change in a big game

The problem is that we went into a soft zone, prevent style defense when we pinned Ms State at the 4 yard line with 9 minutes left in the game. They marched right down the field and had the ball inside the LSU 20 with just under 7 minutes left before the M&M boys got back to back sacks. We were almost at a one score game with 6:30 left to go.

I agree. Mett had 266 yards passing after 3 quarters. Mett threw exactly 3 passes in the 4th quarter, and none traveled more than 8 yards down field. Les said it in his halftime interview with Gordy Rush, "We want to fix our running game." We led 20-10 at half because Mett and Landry were ripping apart the Bulldog defense, but Miles was disappointed that they couldn't run the ball against 8 men in the box. We were up 13 points with 9 minutes left in the game, the ball was at midfield, and we faced 3rd and 4. Instead of going for the knockout, and driving down the field to put State away, we run a fullback dive.

While I showed above that I wish Les would go for the knockout blow instead of leaving the game up to a onsides kick, Les has won 80% of his games and he ain't about to change philosophies now.

Miss St was passing up and down the field all game long, not just at the end. They made it look like they were the best offense we'd played all year.
