I don't blame him for not participating. The NFL Combine makes idiots out of some of the smartest people in football. They become enamored by athletic ability, 40 times, hand size and height instead of placing most of their stock on the film study.

It's because all of those things have shown to have a positive correlation with NFL success. Nothing is a sure thing but it's equally silly to think that stuff doesn't matter.

I don't disagree that those things matter, but every year multiple guys shoot up the draft boards because of their results at a multi-day combine.

This will cost him a draft position. He didn’t catch many balls on the run this year he was more of a spot checkdown guy most of the time and teams need to see him run. He’ll be an undrafted FA pickup.

Hey gotiger that’s actually a pretty strong point you made there, didn’t think about that aspect.

Agreed.

He needs to showcase as much and as often as possible

1. Coming back isn’t going to make him taller
2. He was a damn good blocker this season, what games were you watching?

and you can add that he had an insane target success rate of like 85-90% while setting LSU record for TE catches in a season.

Prior to the playoffs he only had 1 TD on the year

Sometimes those guys turn out to be good NFL players. If they never did, scouts would stop paying attention to combine warriors.

I'll put it like this; there have been far more guys that put up good stats in college and didn't do squat in the league than guys that had elite combine numbers and failed in the league. The measurables still are the best indication we have of future performance.

Well, considering he’s never dropped a pass, I’ll back his decision.
