we're not getting FSU imho. It's not a new market for the SEC at all. If we're looking at this financially/marketing wise. The smartest team to pick up as the #14 would be Virginia Tech because of the D.C. market.

We don't need to go to 16 like some conferences do. We can add 14 and be just fine. It's not about quantity , it's about quality.

I think UNC fits in perfectly with the SEC, as far as culture.... they have a good football, baseball, basketball team and good academics. Doubtful we can pull them away from NC st, Duke, Wake Forest clan tho

That's what i've been reading as well. UNC would be a great fit because it would be a brand new state added to the SEC & they would bring in a program that has the academics/ a football program on the edge of being something great.

Only issue is pulling UNC basketball away from the ACC.

It's not going to be UNC. And I seriously doubt the SEC goes to 16 either. Eventually, the SEC may go to 16, but not in this round of expansion IMO.

TexasA&M plus either VaTech/Florida State/Clemson and the SEC is going to call it a day with 7 teams in each division. Texas A&M alone allows the SEC to renogotiate the TV contract, so the team added on the Eastern side doesn't necessarily have to bring in a new market like people have speculated on. That said, Florida State does increase the TV dollars regardless of the SEC already being in the Florida market. There are rumors that the addition of TexasA&M by itself (in conjunction with the new $$$ commanded after the Pac16 deal) would allow the SEC to renogotiate it's deal to upwards of $30 mil per team compared to the current $17mil per team TV revenue.

If Auburn goes East they would play UGA every year.

They'd still get to play on a rotational basis. To make an omelette you have to break some eggs.

I agree, but we're not going to do it. FSU wants it and they will likely get it. GA Tech is in the running as well for a slot in the expanded East.

Virginia itself would be a decent choice, but Clemson or UNC is more likely.

You've gotta look at it as what will be the next big step for the SEC as far as finding new viewers and expanding our brand of football. I think both Florida & South Carolina would have a problem with FSU or Clemson joining as the 14th member to the conference. Virginia Tech would give us the D.C. market and they have a good tradition

I hate the idea of Mizzou and Va Tech, if you're going to keep the name, keep it somewhat regional.

You are aware that both Virginia and Missouri were accepted into the Confederacy before Kentucky ... Aren't you?

FSU doesn't make much sense as for as TV dollars though... Mizzou (St. Louis & KC markets) a lot of sense... Va. Tech would be a coup(Wash DC mkt) and the SEC cracks into the Northeast TV market.

No one talking about Miami but I think that whole program is a mess...

People need to understand that adding FSU/Miami would do nothing market wise for the SEC. The first reason A&M are even at the table with the SEC is because of the tv market in east Texas (Dallas & Houston). I truly don't see Mizzou coming over to ourside for some reason. I think they would fit better in the Big 10

This is just not true particularly in the case of FSU. Are you saying that if FSU and FL are playing at the same time, then essentially no one is watching FSU? While FL is dominant in the market, the state of FL is so populated that FSU's share is probably the equivalent of medium size state. Just as, if not more importantly strategically it takes that value away from the ACC. You mazimize the SEC and minimize the ACC. Big value. Not only in terms of TV, but also in terms of recruiting. FL may not like it for purely selfish bs reasons, but it would be good for the SEC.

UNC DOES NOT fit the culture of the SEC. Butch Davis basically got fired and the AD resigned because the administration felt football was being placed above academics. No way UNC joins the SEC. NC State would be a more viable candidate.

And screw FSU ... they were too scared to join the SEC 20 years ago, so let them stick with the ACC. I would go for Va Tech.
