Does any of you guys know the stats of Tennessee’s 3 starting pitchers?
Thoughts on how you guys think we’ll do against them.

We outhit Tennessee in each of our losses. If we have good situational hitting this weekend we will win this series.
None of their starters are dominant

All I know is their Friday and Saturday guys have a 4+ era

It’s not an overly impressive group but they don’t beat themselves with mistakes. No one outside of Tidwell will jump out at anybody with their stuff.
Dallas is starting tomorrow night. JUCO kid with decent stuff but not your typical Friday night SEC guy. Would be a Saturday or even Sunday starter on most top 5 type teams. Doesn’t walk many guys but he will allow some hard hit balls. Classic “hard nosed”/“grinder”. 18-1 record at Tennessee/JUCO which can obviously be misleading, but does show that he is at least going to keep his team in the game most times out. Good bet to work deep in to the game but doesn’t miss tons of bats and will probably give up 2-3 runs even if he’s on. Works fast and is more solid than spectacular.
Blade Tidwell is a big right handed freshman who is starting to come in to his own. He will start Sunday. Was up to 99 in the regionals and breaking stuff is coming along. Without question the best long term draft prospect on the roster and looks like a legitimate future top 10 pick. If he gets it going he can dominate against any lineup. Not as efficient as the other guys you’ll see but has worked deep in to games with high pitch counts and has a sub 2 ERA in the second half of SEC play.
Will Heflin is a pitchability fifth year lefty who is mid-high 80s and walks almost no one. Will be the game 3 guy. Can pitch his way through a lineup once or twice with smoke and mirrors and deception but has abysmal numbers the third time through. Needs to be on a tight leash. However, he was on the mound for Tennessee in wins against Arkansas and Vandy.
Staff is not very deep, even Vitello will tell you that. Best arm got hurt second weekend of the year and lost another top 15 pick in the draft with no real replacement outside of Tidwell as of late. 3 bullpen arms that could possibly get every single relief outing this weekend. Tennessee probably has to win the Tidwell/Marceaux game because hard to see them winning both the Dallas and Heflin starts imo.

So tennessee announced that tidwell is pitching sunday and heflin is monday?
Posted on 6/11/21 at 7:11 pm to josh336
Yes. They made the switch at the SECT to flip Tidwell and Heflin. Went Dallas/Tidwell/Heflin last weekend and Vitello said it will be the same order this weekend.

Keep in mind that Tenn was first in the SEC in team ERA. Considering what their weekend guys are at ERA-wise, you know they have a good bullpen.

Hunley and Sewell are the bullpen arms who will get the majority of the innings. Both are much better than Heflin and can go 4-5 innings but Vitello likes the flexibility of being able to use them in any situation. Both can go either one hitter in a big spot if needed or up to 5-6 innings if a starter struggles. Walsh is the top lefty who they used late a lot. Gets good results but doesn’t have much stuff wise. I’m not confident when he comes in the game. They don’t have much at all besides those 3.

Considering we are both Braves fans…. One us will go into deeper baseball despair after this weekend.

Heflin, their #3 guy is only 3-3 and typically only goes 4-5 innings. In 4 years he only has 11 total wins. If we get to Monday no question its advantage LSU on the mound.

Sorry, Vols Braves fans have already agreed with the baseball gods to sacrifice the 2021 Braves to ensure a Vols baseball natty.
