LSU: 4 (#5 Alabama, #11 Florida, #12 Auburn, #19 Texas)
Georgia: 2 (#11 Florida, #16 Notre Dame)
Ohio State: 2 (#14 Wisconsin, #17 Cincinnati)
Penn State: 2 (#15 Michigan, #20 Iowa)
Wisconsin: 2 (#15 Michigan, #20 Iowa)
Michigan: 2 (#16 Notre Dame, #20 Iowa)
Baylor: 2 (#22 Oklahoma State, #24 Kansas State)
Texas: 2 (#22 Oklahoma State, #24 Kansas State)
South Carolina: 1 (#4 Georgia)
Auburn: 1 (#6 Oregon)
Southern Cal: 1 (#7 Utah)
Minnesota: 1 (#9 Penn State)
Kansas State: 1 (#10 Oklahoma)
Florida: 1 (#12 Auburn)
Illinois: 1 (#14 Wisconsin)
Temple: 1 (#18 Memphis)
Oklahoma: 1 (#19 Texas)
TCU: 1 (#19 Texas)
BYU: 1 (#21 Boise State)
Texas Tech: 1 (#22 Oklahoma State)
Memphis: 1 (#23 Navy)
Oklahoma State: 1 (#24 Kansas State)
Georgia Southern: 1 (#25 Appalachian State)
As I mentioned in my last thread, this isn't a ranking. It's a sorting of teams by 1. Number of ranked wins then 2. Highest ranked win
Interesting narratives from this list:
-Alabama, Clemson, Oregon, and Utah are all top 10 teams but do not have a ranked win yet.
-Georgia, even with a loss to USc, has a "better" win than Ohio State
-Minnesota is undefeated and has a quality win over their first/only big test so far
-Georgia Southern, a team LSU paid to come lose 55-3, has a ranked win while some top 10 teams don't. Fun talking point if App State stays ranked with 3 games left in their regular season.
If there's enough interest in this I can do it weekly.

You forgot one:
Alabama: 1 (#5 Alabama)

Just imagine if we beat UGA and then Clemson and then Ohio State.
We will be standing there like... "IS THERE ANYONE LEFT?!"

But I keep hearing Clemson has more power 5 wins than any team in the country.

I think this should be pinned until end of season. Nice work.

I really want Baylor to win out. They'd be forced to put them at 4.

Excellent post, thanks for this

Bama may truly enjoy “privileged” rights in national ranking, but the OP glaringly demonstrates Notre Dame’s nonsensical ranking at #16 without any quality wins. They have 2 loses, and nothing to show for victories over top 25 teams.

more like: "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?"

Outstanding, Ingeniero. I'd love to see it each week. To me, it clearly shows who is winning games that "matter." Even though the ranked teams are there by people who are subjective, this would effectively expose teams that are being rewarded for wins against teams that haven't even passed the eye test of the AP. Great job.

While it has to be taken into account, I HATE that "good" LOSSES (or even "bad" losses) appear to sometimes trump good wins.
This selection is purportedly modeled to some degree after the NCAA basketball tournament selection process. There, the selection committee constantly emphasizes that GOOD wins far outweigh "bad" losses or even "good" losses. Their point is that the best teams are the ones that can beat other good teams (even if sometimes the best teams slip up).
Now, it's more difficult to do that when you (a) have far less regular season games to look at and (b) have FAR fewer spots available in the playoffs, but RIGHT NOW we have 4 of the top 7 teams who don't have a single "good" win. That sends the message: It doesn't matter who you beat, only that you don't lose (unless you are Minnesota)
IMO, good wins should be far more important than losses. Sure Alabama has looked really dominant over a bunch of bad to mediocre teams...but they lost their only "test" of the season. Oregon lost their biggest test of the season. Same, arguably, for Utah.
My rankings would be:
1. LSU
2. Ohio St. (UGA arguably has "better" wins, but OSU was dominant in both of their good wins)
3. Minnesota (only 1 good win, but they should get credit for being undefeated right now)
4. Penn St. (More good wins than Minnesota...but lost head to head)
5. UGA
6. Baylor
7. Clemson
