Why stop there - the entire fan base wanted Rohan over Booty. Some of you people are complete morons bringing race into this.

Everyone keeps saying how well the line played. Brennan was averaging the most time in the pocket of anyone in the SEC. The problem with Brennan early on was that he was holding the ball forever. Everyone was trying to blame the line. He was beginning to fix that problem, and then Finley last night had great pocket awareness. He faced some pressures and simply got out of there and made some great plays.

I'm kind of annoyed with how people are trying so hard to downplay everything Finley did.

It’s kind like back in 2002 after Mauck got hurt and then we whipped Carolina the 1st week Randall started. Once AU had film on him we went to AU and he got crushed.
or when Mauck played in the SEC championship and Tennessee wasn't ready for his style of play. Mauck didn't necessarily do anything special; they just didn't prepare for or have video on him. Or even bama not preparing for JJ when he came in Jarrett Lee.

Finley was impressive, but he has a lot left to prove. He gets the ball out pretty quickly, but also seems to have a great clock in his head. I wouldn't mind seeing some dual qbing.

He can’t throw the long ball accurately. Teams are now aware of this and adjust their defenses accordingly.

At least with MB we have that threat.

I don't think film in his case helps much since he spread the ball all over, threw a number of different routes with great touch, got rid of the ball decisively and had some decent runs. The O-line blocked so well that it's hard to tell how he would do getting tons of pressure. There is nothing there based on last night's film to say he has a certain weakness to attack.

They can get plenty out of it. They are going to drop into zone and hybrid coverages to try and confuse him because he isn’t going to burn them for big yards scrambling. They won’t waste a guy spying unless it’s short yardage. They will also squeeze down on shorter routes and slants and try to force Finley to throw deep. We know he had a big arm, but he hasn’t shown accuracy and consistency there yet. They will try to force him to prove he can beat them 1 on 1 downfield.

Finley could burn the hell out of a defense doing this, but he could also get confused and start making mistakes, especially in a road game or with more pressure to carry the load against a better team.

None of this is a knock on Finley. He looks great for a freshman who was supposed to be a developmental guy. He just hasn’t proven he can do everything or execute the entire playbook yet. A guy like Saban can feast on that with an extra week to prepare.

frick that and frick you. Rohan Davey is one of my favorites of all time. I want who’s best for the team and right now, all three of our QBs have weaknesses, or at least big unknowns to their games. That’s a fricking FACT.

Finley's style of play does not contrast like those two examples you provided.

Mauck was qb option all the way (until Saban ruined that aspect of him late against Florida in 2002). Davey was a pocket passer. Same thing with Lee/Jefferson.

more people on this board have been in favor or Finley. FYI. Quit bringing race into this.

Teams had film on bama too. Didn’t do them any good!

Nobody is downplaying anything Finley did. He played great. The O-line played a great game though (minus a few dumb penalties). We had big lanes to run the ball, got push on short yardage situations and generally gave Finley a good amount of time to throw the ball. He did get out and threw well on the run when he needed to as well when he saw some pressure (or got rid of it quickly in the pocket). I'm just saying what was true in that we didn't see a ton of pressure. Muschamp tried to drop more guys in coverage and it didn't work due to Finley seeing the field well and nailing his throws.

More binary thinking. Saying Finley shouldn’t be anointed the chosen one today is not a knock on his performance last night. Bringing up anything he didn’t do well or that we haven’t seen from him yet isn’t, either. Crediting the O Line and running backs for their best game of the season doesn’t take away from him. All of the above is true to varying degrees.

Jennings did NOT look great his first few games. He had that one pretty throw to beat Arky after Mett went down, then was kinda bad in the bowl game. We just tried to talk ourselves into him improving going into 2014.

I was talking about that Arkansas game when he came in. That was his first appearance not in mop-up duty with anything on the line. We were down with just a couple of minutes left and he had to start at the 1-yard line. He ran and passed well, and of course, nailed the long pass that gave us the W. We got very excited about him being the future. Then he had a poor bowl game and never panned out for LSU (not that I blame our QBs back then because our development was so poor and our scheme so outdated). So in his first real action with anything at all on the line, he looked great.
