Teach me how to buy tix on Gameday!

FIRST POST!
(Yes, this is Tejas-related)
Been a season tix holder since '99. TD reader for about as long. Have always enjoyed this site and the regular contributors - but never thought I would ever have to post something about tix. I've either always had them or just bit the bullet and paid the piper. But $400 is just insanity.
I get it. Big game. But bigger than Fla '07? Bama '12? Georgia '03 or even last year? Umm, not IMO. I was there for all of those and there were always, and I mean ALWAYS tickets floating around the stadium.
For years I've read many of you laugh and scoff at those who pay those stubhub prices while crying, "just buy them on gameday, about an hour before kickoff, and save bigly!!" Well... I'd like to hear from you peeps who have actually done just that.
Teach me! Inspire me! What have you done in the past and what works? What do you plan to do on 9/7?? What price do you think they will go for?
Thanks to all of you who may be able to offer some good advice.
And to those who may want to reply, "sitting in front of my 65" tv in the comfort of my blah, blah, blah frickity blah" well you can fork yurself don't come at me with that weak-arse shitake I'll meet you at Sonic. (did I do that right?)

The market is completely different for this game because LSU gets so few tickets. I don't know what ticket sales are like in Austin on gameday as I've never been to a game there but I don't think online prices will drop much unless one team has a major upset week 1
basically all of us that are looking for tickets are going to take it up the arse

The Gametime app never fails me for cheap tickets before a game.

I've bought several away tickets in front of stadiums, people always want to bail, and there are always ticket scalpers. The trick is, you have to accept that you may not get a ticket and will end up watching at a bar nearby. If you are OK with that outcome, then you can be significantly more flexible.
1. the closer to kickoff you wait, the cheaper the tickets will become
2. nose bleeds will be easiest to obtain for cheap prices
3. single tickets are easiest to obtain, doubles aren't that difficult either. You will not find a group of 6+ tickets all sitting next to each other.
4. when it comes to pricing, assume that you might be buying a fake ticket, and don't spend more than you are willing to waste.
5. if a scalper still has tickets after the game has started, he will sell you that thing for pennies on the dollar.
I was in Austin a few years back when they played Ole Miss. We were able to get a group of 4 nosebleed tickets for 30$ each. Obviously this game will be much more popular, and will have a lot of LSU fans, but i think you could probably find a pair together for 200$ total.

Get to the gate you want to go in at about 30 minutes before game and hold up number you need.
No problem

Dress decent and go find the rich UT/LSU fan areas and politely ask if they have any extra tickets are available for purchase.

find out where LSU people are tailgating. Dress like a normal human being (so people don't mind sitting next to you for the game) and hold up a finger. Inevitably there will be someone who couldn't make the trip last minute... (same thing 2 posts above mine said)

Just know that the scenario of I'm just going to show up on gameday with your wife and 2 kids and looking to find 4 together in the shade is completely different than walking to the front of the stadium right at kickoff and looking for one ticket anywhere.

I dont understand this line of thinking.
I was fortunate to get a pair of tickets through TAF, but i was prepared to pay through the nose (or just watch at a bar) if I hadn’t.. i feel like some here dont understand the simple law of supply and demand.. LSU was only allocated 3500 tickets for the game, but the three largest LSU fan bases outside of Louisiana (Austin, Dallas, Houston) are all within 4 hrs of the stadium.. so there are theoretically, probably 500,000 people, or maybe a million, who would like to go to the game, hence the extremely tight market.
For comparison, i was able to easily snag 8 tickets to the LSU/Bama title game in NOLA in 2012 (which i now wish i’d skipped), compared to sweating it out for two tickets to the LSU/UT game.. from a supply and demand perspective, this is simply the biggest game in the history of LSU football.

Put your fingers for the number of tickets you need high above your head and walk around on game day. Someone who can't go to the game will sell to you at good prices.

What about for the season opener? Will I be able to get tickets outside the stadium?

This is where I hope to score... and only looking for 2 tix wherever I can get em

I understand economics, surely. Geography is the only thing driving these prices up. What bothers me is that it's an exhibition game at most, and either team can lose and still make the playoffs bc it's only week 2.
But what really bugs me is when UT comes to town and has a huge showing in TS because, 1. LSU will give them thousands of tix and 2. Flaky LSUfan will sell out just like they did to Georgia last year. Hope I'm wrong, tho.

Absolutely... there may even still be tickets available directly from LSU Ticket office. Over 4th of July weekend they were trying to give away tickets. We got 9 tickets in the ‘Skyline Club’ (South Upper) that includes all you can eat concessions for $17.76 each. That just tells me there were PLENTY tix available and likely still may be.

Buying tickets on game day at any stadium is a pure commodities market environment. Tickets are like any fruit or vegetable they have a shelf life, and once the game starts the tickets that are left become worthless by the end of the first quarter. So many variables go into determining what you should pay for tickets such as Seat location, Weather, Time of Day, Opponent, W/L record, early crowd, traffic, local scalping laws. You must evaluate each event and bring sufficient cash to make a good deal. Don't get in a hurry and be patient you will always be able to find a ticket.

If it is sold out, it will be, it makes it tougher to get great deals at the stadium. You are going to have to be extremely patient, which will definitely test you when it gets close to game time!
I paid $25per ticket at the Fiesta Bowl sat on the 30yd line LSU side about 30 rows up! But the game wasn’t a sell out!!!

It's against university rules to scalp tickets on campus, so don't walk around with your fingers in the air.
I would suggest another place to stick your fingers, but I'll resist.

Haha good one... I'm actually a little nervous about holding two fingers up (or down) on UT's campus. You guys are really touchy about that.
