re: DirectTV Stream: Gemini Air
Posted by StylesGMonkey on 11/12/25 at 3:07 pm to dallastiger55
I just signed up for Directv Stream (bc of the Disney-Google fued)...
I'm using the app via Roku box connected to my LG tv. Does the Gemini Air deliver a better platform/viewing experience compared to Roku?
How do I get the Gemini Air? I've seen most people buy it off of ebay?

Of course wish we were in DV but trying to make lemonade out of lemons! And just a college football fan in general so I thought it would be fun to catch a buffs game.

Any Tiger fans in Denver/Boulder tailgating for Colorado game?
Posted by StylesGMonkey on 10/7/24 at 9:23 am
Some friends and I traveling to Denver this weekend... planned on watching the Tigers beat Ole Miss from Stoney's but any chance there's a Tiger fan out there watching this game from a tailgate in Boulder?
Would love to rep LSU in Boulder and if lucky get in to the Buffs game.
Geaux Tigers!

re: UNLV QB quits immediately over NIL

Fellas you are thinking about this the wrong way... Stop comparing CFB to the NFL and banging your heads against the wall screaming for contracts, contracts, contracts. Those days will come but for now you need to compare CFB to....
Major League Baseball (with 30 or 32 major league teams) and the Minor Leagues (with 100 or whatever Single-A, AA, AAA teams).
CFB has maybe 30 major league teams (blue bloods Ohio State, Michigan, Bama, LSU, Georgia, USC, Texas, OU, Florida, Clemson, etc) and yes even some teams that have such an insane amount of booster money they will always compete for players even though they never win anything (aTm, Tennessee, Penn State, Notre Dame, hell even Nebraska).
Every other team is a minor league team, even teams in the Big10 or SEC (looking at you, Missouri, Iowa State, Michigan State, Miss State).
Any cfb player in the minors can be "called up" to another minor league team OR to the majors before they burn their redshirt. Also... any minor league player can "call himself up" to any other team for more $$ or a better NIL deal or whatever.
This is NOT going to ruin CFB. CFB is becoming it's own sport. It's not even a D-league for the NFL anymore. Players can get paid NOW and as a bonus might be lucky enough to make it to the NFL.
CFB is now just a 1-year league... just like MLB - any team can go from worst to first and make a run to the playoffs if they get hot in November. The only difference is Major League CFB allows one, just one, Minor League team into the Fall Classic just for shites and giggles. And every once in a while USF will get into the tourney with a hot qb and they go on the road and beat Michigan.
NOTHING will change with state laws until A MAJOR STAR PLAYER FROM THE YANKEES decides to reshirt before his fourth game AND TRANSFERS TO THE RED SOX OR DODGERS.
It could have happened this year - imagine if Qwinn Ewers had NOT been hurt, and TODAY the news drops that Arch Manning was redshirting and TRANSFERRING TO ALABAMA OR OHIO STATE for a $10M payday.
Texas would have re-written their state constitution tomorrow had that happened and then all other states by this time next year would have this figured out.

Help me with YouTube TV

I'm new to yttv, I've added LSU - Bama to my library so it will record the game.... But will it quit recording at 10pm when the guide says it's supposed to end? Or will it continue to record until the game is over? I can't see how to "add" additional time to the recording. Thanks
re: Anyone seen a movie in 4DX or ScreenX? Worth it?

70mm is what I would prefer but no way I can drive 5 or 6hrs. In my youth perhaps. Looking for the next best option.
I find it odd that Houston doesn't have a 70mm theatre. Get it together, htown

Looking at Houston theatres for M:I and Oppenheimer...
Regal theatres have all kinds of different screens besides IMAX (I plan on IMAX for Oppenheimer), but for M:I would anyone recommend these other screen formats??
4DX looks like a ride? Would that get annoying?
ScreenX has screens on both sides of main screen... wth?
Anyway, looking for someone who has actually seen a big movie in one of these formats and what do you think?
thanks

John McTeirnan had a three-movie run that I don't think any director has topped...
Predator
Die Hard
The Hunt for Red October
Of those, I can never turn off Red October. A near perfect film imo.
The Thomas Crown Affair (w/Brosnan) is another film I have a hard time turning off.

Brandon Staley is the NFL coach SW is looking at...
Posted by StylesGMonkey on 11/27/21 at 8:48 am
Chargers head coach. He makes 1M per year as an NFL coach. LSU paying 12M. This according to my sauce in Nola.
I still believe it will be Riley, but once the dust settles we will be surprised how high Staley was on SWs list.

re: Is UCLA-LSU 100% confirmed? Time to book flights??

Yeah I got lucky with the hotels... booked a long time ago. Staying in Pasadena about 30 min walk to the Rose Bowl. Should be easier than trying to uber/lyft.

What are you baws doing for flights? I've had my hotel and rental car reserved for nearly a year... those can be canceled anytime.

Exactly my point. I just want what happened Sat night to mean something, to lead to something great.
Worried O gonna eff it up.

Anyone kinda bummed J. Reed's record fell?
Posted by StylesGMonkey on 12/22/20 at 9:06 pm
I started attending games in '99, been a season tix holder ever since.
2001 was a special year, the beginning of the golden era for a lot of us. Watching Rohan to Reed that year was a treat. And to watch Reed set that record AT Bama was even sweeter.
Look, I really hope Boutte turns out to be a great one, and I hope 2021 sees LSU playing for the SEC title and more.
But if CEO let's the wheels come off and Josh Reed's record falls because of a meaningless season in a meaningless game with two of the worst defenses in football... Then, well, shite.
Rant, tell me not to worry.

re: Aug 14 is deadline to opt-out... wth should I do??
Posted by StylesGMonkey on 8/14/20 at 10:36 am to ffishstik
Looks like most are opting out...? Honestly there's no way to repeat what happened last year so the smart play is to lay em down and cash out with our winnings.
I just called the ticket office and the guy told me the same thing another poster mentioned, that once they allocate tix and potentially move your seats you can still opt out if you want to. Looks like LSU t.o. is trying to accommodate everyone as much as possible given an impossible situation.
With all that said... I'll keep em. Geaux Tigers! :)

Correct, if you don't do anything then you are telling LSU ticket office you want your season tickets for 2020.

Yeah, my gut tells me to roll the dice. Attending 5 SEC games in one year would be cool if they could pull it off.
But paying full-price for tix and getting a terrible game-day experience (no tailgating, no band, no crowd) seems awful. I could also see the cameras zooming in on pairs of fans sitting alone with noone else around, looking miserable, and then getting shamed on-air for not wearing a mask

Sucks that they are asking us to make this decision 6 weeks before the season starts... but I know it's so they can go to JBE with a reasonable request for fans in the stands?
What are season tix holders doing? Are you opting out? What happens if they only give us 1 ticket each (I have 3 btw)? Can we opt-out if we don't like what they give us? What about game-day parking?
Ugh.. what a mess.
