Syrian official who moved to Lexington SC sentenced to 60 years for torture of prisoners

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California announced on Thursday that Samir Ousman Alsheikh, 74, had been sentenced to 60 years for his actions when he was a brigadier general in charge of a Syrian prison.

Alsheikh has been in federal custody since 2024, before which prosecutors said he lived in Lexington, though it's unclear how long he lived in the area. He was ultimately convicted on six counts of conspiracy to commit torture, three counts of torture, one count of fraud in possession and use of an immigration document, and one count of attempted naturalization fraud.

This guy was likely waterboarding the same type of folks we were. Assad and the Alawites in Syria were fighting the Sunni extremists like Al Qaeda and Al Nusra. This guy shouldn't be here, but why are we prosecuting him instead of deporting him?

Of course. 2 years ago. Two Venezuelan nationals raped and killed a 12 year old girl walking home from school under an overpass not but 3-4 miles from our old house.
Media barely covered it and definitely never brought up their immigration status. No big deal, just an everyday minor incident..
