You are right but doesn’t mean we can’t still root for the guy
Rooting for a guy has its limits. I believe the starters should be based on performance, not sympathy or wishful thinking. As you probably have seen, a few days ago Johnson spoke to the media after one of LSU's many losses lately. He admitted that he had put together a roster that didn't work. He said that he got blinded by trying to sign more power and not good fundamental hitters. He didn't mention Yorke's name but Ray Charles wearing sunglasses on a moonless night knows he would have been at the top of a list. He is a big guy who has HR potential and Johnson hoped he could unleash that. He was wrong...and he admitted that speaking about being in love with potential power guys too much in that class.

The objective verdict: he is a guy who couldn't make the jump from inferior pitching to SEC caliber pitchers. That isn't hate...it is looking at his stats and coming to the obvious conclusion. He isn't a D-1 caliber starter either in the field or as a DH.
Other than the fact that he batted 0.331 at Grand Canyon University who played in the Western Athletic Conference of D1 baseball during his 3 years.

If you knew how much ice cream he eats vs gym and hitting work you’d delete this

I will take your word for it that Grand Canyon University is D-1. If that be true, then I will reword SLIGHTLY my statement. Yorke is NOT a D-1 caliber starter for ANY team in a major conference. Maybe you will now claim that the WAC is a major conference. No need to claim that because I will just call BS on that claim.
Geez, the way people try to argue with people on this site is really
But hey, we all need barbers in this world to split hairs.

It’s ok. LSU baseball fans, for the most part, love to eat their own. Your biggest protagonist on here made the wrong assumption based on Yorke’s stats while at GCU. He was not recruited to hit HRs, although he is capable of them.
If one will actually look at his stats from GCU, it was his Hits that glaringly stand out: 199!!! He only hit 13 HRs last year. He had so many RBIs (157) because he had so many hits, not HRs.
His fielding % at GCU was higher than here: .993 vs .977
His fielding % last season was .997
People believe what they want to believe. And that includes me. But don’t let an agenda against an overweight player sway you. His weight last year at GCU was the same by the way.
If you want to blame CJJ for anything such as evaluating talent, one could argue Yorke’s stats gradually declined over his career at GCU, which, in my opinion, means other teams had him figured out.
Remember, when the portal closed last year, CJJ was only working with $245K in revenue sharing.

Actually, a lot of his stats were the BEST last season a GCU. SLG% highest...OPS highest...# HRs highest. His average was better than the year before too. IMO, the problem clearly wasn't that anyone "figured him out". The problem was he stepped up from the WAC to the SEC. He isn't the first player to transfer in and not be able to produce against different caliber pitching or a pitcher who can't overpower better hitters in the SEC...that happens also. Johnson just made a bad "projection" on him. It happens and Yorke is one perfect example where this guy's average plummeted 100 points.
