I know it has a lot of problems as they are generally uncreative, lack passion, and are lazy.
However, LSU needs to take some blame as well. They only allow full time students in for free. Attendance sucks so why not invite all faculty, staff, and students in for free? They could gain a few $$'s off concession stand sales. When scanning ID's they have become asses. Some have told me its not even worth the hassle anymore to attend a game.
If LSU would just go back to flashing an ID, and allowing faculty, staff in for free attendance would return

you have this typed up and saved on your computer somewhere don't you? Still having trouble paying for those $5 tickets huh?

At least those who pay and don't show up are contributing to the program financially.
A couple hundred students showing up is as sad as it gets.

True. But, students showing up has no financial benefit to the program unless they buy concessions. I will agree that them--as well as all other fans--showing up may probably help the team more though.

Students don't go to LSU to watch basketball games. They come for football & baseball. Just how it is. Sorry. Don't like it, pull for Kentucky.
