There are two components to playing. Knowing what to do and being able to do it. Stevens hasn't had as many reps. He seems like the kind of player that will benefit from the bowl practices and make a big play in the bowl game. We'll all ask why he didn't play before and the answer will be he finally got the reps needed to unleash what he is able to do.

Bc we have absurd DB depth and talent. Tell me who you want to bench so he can play

Battle would be the guy. But it's awefully presumptuous to think Stevens is better at this stage.

I would think #5 might be kickoff guy after Gamble yet again can't get it outta the endzone

I’m pretty sure you thought that dumbass comment sounded real cute and good to you in that empty head of yours. Freaks like you are truly what ruin sports today. The sad part is you probably believe that you actually know better than coaches.

You have John Battle and Monroe ahead of him at the safety spot. I'm sure if he was a monster in practice and training camp then he would find the field. Just think if Ed Paris is granted a medical redshirt,,,he will never see the field.

Russell Shepard is in the NFL still, not a star but a good athlete.

Yes, but he was a 5 star who was passed by lesser rated players - which was the point.

Have you guys ever thought maybe we should have gotten the ball into his hands more often.

Definitely not. Although Shep was a good player, he is no where near as good as Landry and Beckham. In fact, Wright and Boone were very good as well, but they barely touched the ball.

The bottom line is Shepard played for LSU and did not live up to 5 star status but he was not a flop either.

You are arguing a different point. No one in this thread is saying he was a flop. That's you bringing that up again.

In 2010, I wondered why Eric Reid played ahead of Craig Loston. Loston was a 5-star and Reid a 4-star. Loston was in the system a year ahead of Reid too. Stevens may go on to be a great player, but clearly there are better players at safety ahead of him right now. Stars don't mean anything

Russell has exceeded his talent at WR. Him still being in the league as an un drafted free agent is a testament to his work ethic and determination.

Miles tried this and it was detrimental to the team's success. But Miles kept his word to Shepard and had designed plays just for him vs other better, more experienced players. I remember when Miles went ballistic on that reporter that called Shepard a bust.

I agree Shepard didnt live up to his extremely high profile coming out of HS. Miles tried him at RB, WR and QB and gave him every opportunity to find his niche. He was given plenty of chances at three different positions, not many get those types of opportunities.

I enjoyed your post and agree that Shepard was a great LSU Tiger in more ways than just a player. Its good to see him on an NFL team. He is a class act.

Yeah - the staff took a gamble - the choice was to play him, now, as an offensive player or next year as a linebacker. Kid wanted to play, so they gave him some looks. Didn't warrant him staying - then we got a couple of injuries in the secondary, so he's back there again. Safety transitions pretty well to linebacker in this situation.

But, burning a year seems wasteful at this point.

I remember a few games ago, he made a 25 or so yard catch and made it look easy. Sure, his future is at Safety, but if we're so stacked at his position then give him a chance to make some plays on offense. I say put him in a position to get some touches.

because he's too slow to play in the slot or at safety and doesn't have good enough hands to play out wide I actually think he'd be a decent linebacker

Eric Reid was quite intelligent. Observing Loston, I am doubtful he could spell his name correctly 3 out of 5 times.
