Stidham vs. Etling

Jarrett Stidham was just named Auburn's starting QB. Here is a quote from the article:
Everyone knows Stidham transferred from Baylor. Meanwhile Etling, who transferred in from Purdue completed 8 for 18 (44%) in Saturday's scrimmage. He was also less than 50% completions in the first scrimmage.
Not saying Etling won't get his act together, but when? I have high expectations for Etling. Supposedly his back is no longer an issue. Everyone praises his leadership. He seems to be a great team player. Are his receivers dropping balls? Regardless of the cause, the Tigers passing game has to improve the completion rate. I don't remember any successful QB in history with less than 50%.
I have no interest whatsoever in starting a QB controversy. I know Etling will be our starter. I just want him to be excellent and turning heads in the right direction.
What do others on this board think?

Kevin Steele has terrible and confusing defensive coverages and Auburn was like 111th in the country against the pass last year and Steele had us making walk on QBs look like Tom Brady.

That sure is a lot of speculation and questions from a practice that was closed to the media let alone tigerdroppings.

Stidham looks great. Etling looks like a Purdue reject.

I think Etling will be better than he was last year, but Stidham's a better QB.

Too bad our terrible offense and QB play still couldn't score enough points on Auburn.

Really weird set up for a thread about Etling. If you want to wring your hands about Etling go for it but idk what Stidham has to do with that, or his spring game stats.

I think you should temper your expectations.
We are talking about a guy that threw an interception right before the half in our bowl game b/c he didn't have the arm strength to get a ball out of bounds while on the run.

These aren't full games. They are practices where they focus on specific situations. The stats are meaningless because the defense often knows what is coming. It's why we frequently see jumped routes for big time picks in the spring game.

Etling was a top-5 SEC QB last year in conference games. Stidham beat out the guy one notch above him, and Dobbs is gone. So on paper he's a top-3 returning QB.
Stidham might be all that, we'll see. He has to prove it in SEC play.

This. But also Etling's playing behind our O-line. I think if Etling has time, he can be pretty effective. Not all SEC but good enough. My concern is less to do with him than it does our O-line pass protecting.

Why do we keep bringing up that argument they had the 7th best scoring Defense. Remember the Defense that beat us when they couldn't score a single touchdown

5 TD's in 8 games. sounds like the 5th best QB to me.
Did you know that Etling had attempted 96 passes without a TD at one point during the season, during the meat of our SEC schedule, spanning over 5 games?
Etling is at best, an average college QB. how anyone thinks otherwise is beyond me.
And i like Etling by the way, but he isn't good enough to win us games. He's good enough to not lose us games if he plays well.

Do some research. Stidham had a terrible first scrimmage and threw a pick 6. Was out performed by Sean White

67th. People who make up stats should be banned.

That's because it was Miles' offense. Auburn didn't play great against the pass last year. They got torched by A&M and Oklahoma. We played right into their strength.
