Wouldn't that final picture in the SEC Storied of Shaq & Dale hugging make an awesome statue on campus to honor their relationship with each other and LSU?

Why does Dale deserve a statue?

Were you not alive during the good years? LSU basketball was one of the most consistently good programs during Dale's years. I think he had a string of continual NCAA appearances exceeded by only North Carolina at some point during his tenure. He arguably has meant more to the program than any other player or coach. 1979-1991 were great years for LSU basketball, likely to never be repeated.

I actually said the same thing to my wife when I saw that last scene. I said, "THAT should have been the statue. It should have been both of them."

That would have been the greatest statue in college athletics, IMO. Completely different and would have shown the relationship between coach and player that is at the center of the sport.

Great scene.

That's all fine and dandy. I have no problem admitting that he was the best LSU basketball coach of all time, doesn't mean he deserves a statue.

Skip deserves one a hell of a lot more than Dale does.

I agree that statues should be hard to get. If a coach deserves one, Bertman has to be at the top of the list. I will say that Dale deserves one more than Shaquille.

It wouldn't even need to be in front of the PMAC...its more of a reflection on the coach/teacher and player/student role that exists in college athletics.

Agreed, but Shaq's statue is more of a recruiting tool and something that mainly exists because of his play as a pro, not in college.

If he, for whatever reason, flamed out in the NBA, then that statue wouldn't have been built. Hell, if he had a NBA career akin to Tyson Chandler (good, not great), that statue probably isn't built.

I'm sure his admiring monetary support he's shown LSU was a factor too

No thanks.

How about taking the same money and instead endowing an annual scholarship for a needy but worthy student?

So lets have one of Skip hugging Warren Morris.

Iv always thought that LSU should build a "Garden of Champions" or "Tiger Alley" or something in one of the areas near the Athletic Department/PMAC/Death Valley.

Put out statues of Dale, Bertman, Dietzel, Cannon, etc. I guarantee the opportunity to attach names to bricks/statues/trees would mean that this project would fund itself.

I do not understand this statue fetish that so many people have adopted lately.
