God, looking back at the penalties during the Miles era... it's just embarrassing.
-2005: 8.8 penalties per game (115th 'fewest' in the country)
-2006: 6.4 (88th)
-2007: 8.4 (117th)
-2008: 6.2 (72th)
-2009: 6.6 (80th)
-2010: 6.0 (65th)
-2011: 6.2 (71st)
-2012: 7.0 (97th)
-2013: 6.9 (104th)
-2014: 5.4 (46th)
-2015: 8.0 (121st; 8th worst)
-2016: 4.9 (24th fewest)
and that 2016 stat includes Miles' first four games of 5/5/7/5 (5.5 average, 43rd at best).
It was a terrible trend that was reflective of poor discipline. An outlier year here and there is understandable; things happen and bad penalties are called. But when it's a year-in year-out problem, it leads one to believe there's a coaching issue. I think this is where Coach O made a significant and immediate impact.
EDIT-here's an apples-to-apples comparison for you:
Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss:
2005: 5.2 (12)
2006: 5.2 (36)
2007: 6.3 (59)

I've never watched a team have as many called back big plays due to penalties as last year's team.. We shot ourselves in the foot so often that I eventually became numb to it.

All the delay of game calls with Miles screening Cams plays.

Besides running such a conservative and predictable offense, I have felt the last five years LSU's execution of plays has been bad, really bad. Averaging a high number of penalties per game supports this belief.
Think of all the motion penalties and incorrect line up penalties that killed so many drives.

That was the one thing that did stand out to me this year. We didn't have all the stupid offsides and false start penalties like we used to have.

Very telling.

Yeah it was abundantly clear that Miles put out sloppy football more times than not. Very very frustrating to watch.

Not At ALL... Just waiting for the MILES lovefest with you and telling EVERYONE how great Miles was... Its pretty pathetic.... There has NEVER been A Thread that involves Miles [where its bad} and you DON'T show up to tell everyone what his winning % is and how great he was AT LSU and that the penalties were not his fault............

So is wins and losses not all that matter now?
Also, if you were actually a fan of lsu youd now that we were bad with penalties under saban too. But i guess that doesnt fit your opinion.

04 they were 44 with 6 per game, but had 7.7 per game in the final 3.
LSU had penalty problems under saban as well.

We were 87th in 2003. They need to stop acting like it didnt happen under Saban and dinardo.

Coach Canada will probably even improve that next year...he has made it clear;he will stand for pre-snap penalties...sounds great to me..

Old news. I've said this for years. Miles was terrible at on the field discipline. Never fixed it either.
