I think we win, but not because we beat Oregon three years ago.

The biggest misconception that the badger fans seem to have is that Iowa almost beat us. The score does look close but I remember one glaring aspect of that game that tells me all that I need to know about how we stacked up that might.

Les didn't need a passing game to beat them. Since his TF QB had never started before, Les simply played the ground and pound until Iowa was worn down. LSU was totally dominating on defense so I don't blame him at all. The only reason why it was close was that they lucked out and got the ball inside our 5yd line twice. This was the only two times they scored TDs.

So LSU did dominate Iowa and they did it without bothering to pass the ball. That in itself is pretty impressive.

Furthermore along the same lines as the OP, Gordon looks like a normal SEC back to me. Call me spoiled, but watching kids like Jeremy Hill, Gurley, Richardson, Mason, Knile Davis and every single other back week in and week out..... this guy looks no better than any of them. Not a knock on him, he's great. But so is every other back LSU faces. They'll run on us, but that's all they'll do. We match up better with our line vs their defense, and our special teams are going to facefrick them. It won't be pretty, but Tigers are going to walk out with the win. I can't wait to see what Hunter does to them, lol.

Good Post.

This will be a close game. I think our inexperience at QB will keep us from taking a huge lead. I see this game as a grinder and nail biting at times. But I do see LSU pulling away in 4th quarter.

I don't see a clear leader emerging at QB position till AU game.

Thanks all.

I was a little tired of homer predictions with few facts.
I had to crunch some numbers to feel more confident about victory.

I respect the idea that each of these teams has yet to play a down........so who can really know who should win.
Yet, Wisconsin has won 1 game 5 times against ranked teams in the last 7 years. Only 2 years did they win against 2 ranked teams.

LSU has won 7 and 8 games against ranked opponents in past years.

I think LSU will be too much.

If Jeremy Hill played for Wisconsin last year he would have won the Heisman.

You're right.
They shredded a bunch of inferior teams with run game.

Can you imagine any of our running backs getting so many carries against these teams?

Of course there would be Heisman discussion

We shredded several top 25 defenses too. While those stats are impressive, you left out one key detail; almost all of that happened with Fat Boy Bert at the helm, a coach known for choking away close games. Look at the scores of those losses, almost every single one of them was a one score game (except USC 2013 34-24, MSU 2010 34-24, Iowa 2009 20-10 (F**k Iowa) and OSU 2009 31-13) after we got back on our feet after down years in 2007 and 2008.

Moral victories I know, but there is a world of difference between teams that get blown out when they face tough comp and those that battle everyone they play to the wire. One or two plays go our way in those games and the record looks a whole lot different. I think that has some relevance when looking at past history.

I think you are misinterpreting our take on that game. Its not that we think that Iowa almost beat you, its the fact that it was even a game at all. Iowa lost their QB at halftime and it still took a score in the last two minutes for LSU to pull out the W. We played that same Iowa team at their house and physically dominated them on our way to an easy 28-9 victory. UW-Iowa is one of the most intense rivalries in the B1G (all time series is 43-42-2 in UW's favor) and we hadn't played them in 3 years (stupid conference expansion). Their team and their fans were PUMPED UP for that game and we pimp slapped in their own house.

Wisconsin is a vastly superior team to Iowa. What we take away from that game is that all these recruiting rankings that people are throwing out don't mean much. A much less talented team played you close, I see no reason why a better team (UW) couldn't as well, especially when you have to replace multiple players that rank as some of the best to ever play at LSU.

But don't get it twisted, I'm not saying that because Iowa played you close UW will win. I am saying that because of that game, as well as many other factors, I expect our game to be close too. LSU is the clear favorite, but it is by a much smaller margin than many here suspect. If UW plays well we have every chance of pulling out the W.

Johnster,
I appreciate your points, but lots of running yard in losses are still losses. I won't put lipstick on our losses.

A stronger point may be.....that when LSU loses, it is usually a poorly played game by the tigers.
So if they do not 'show up' for the game.....it will be a loooong night on defense.

And as to the Iowa game......
You are admitting that they had their starter for a half?

Well we had a first time starting true freshman behind center.
I thought LSU looked damned strong for that!!!

But, I wish you the best.
Good luck and enjoy the environment!!!

I think we will win. If it is a blow out, I believe it will definitely be in LSU's favor. Turnovers will be key as always, think Ole Piss last year..not as talented and more banged up..and yet.
I've never been a negatiger in my life, but you rarely know how a new team reacts to the first game. This goes for every team. Yes we have a good track record on opening day and against OOC foes for 10 years.

One of these days LSU will lose an opener, an OOC regular season game, and yes even to the Grinders.

I just hope it isn't this year. I don't think it will be. I do respect Wisconsin as much or more than any OOC team as a program other than Oregon, maybe VA Tech when we played them the last and only 2 times.

If you look at their schedule(very bad I know)they have to believe with a win they can run the table till playoffs. If LSU wins, I'm not sure we can say that(much tougher table to run)

Also the conditions were pretty bad vs Iowa....LSUs speed in an indoor stadium should present some problems.

Admitting? Was there ever a question? And I would say losing your starter mid game is a much more daunting prospect than starting a 4 star all world recruit who had the whole month to prepare, especially when they are playing from a major talent disparity to begin with.

Same to you sir, and thank you for disagreeing in a civil manner! I wish I was going If you are enjoy it! But not too much I hope

Haha you can do that when you are LSU, we mortals have to look for the silver lining every now and then.
