I'd imagine Todd Harris has the inside track for one of the safety positions due to experience, much to the chagrin of most people here. However, there should be plenty of competition there as well as the other safety spot.

Is Jay Ward going to hold down that other spot?

Sage Ryan, Jordan Toles, Derrick Davis, and Matthew Langlois should be in the mix as well.

Any inclination how that position plays out?

ETA: Forgot about Major Burns.

Ward and Harris/toles likely the starters. Davis and sage will see the field a lot, and sage may take the slot cb spot if flott hasn't improved. Intrigued to see mclgothern ... he was the most talented player in spring game, and physically seems to have taken that next step

I think it starts out with Ward/Harris but ends up Ward/Burns of Ward/Toles.

Toles/davis.

Sage in the slot.
McGlothern will be the 3rd outside corner.

What's the deal with Toles?

I keep forgetting about Burns when I think of the safety battles. He’s real intriguing, if he comes in and takes the other starting safety spot beside Ward that would be great for LSU! Would show what a beast he is considering the competition he’s going up against

I’ve never seen a whole lot from Harris that really impressed me. Always seemed very slow to read and react

I feel pretty confident Ward has be safety spot down. I fully expect Harris to be the game 1 starter alongside him, but I think that will change by about game 4. My gut says Derrick Davis takes that spot from him, but I could see it being Burns or Toles as well. As others have said, I think Sage Ryan ends up playing more nickel than safety.

That nickel spot is going to be a battle as well with McGlothern and Flott.

Harris isn’t great but that’s a weak spot on the team so he will play. Better with the ball in the air then he is coming down in the box

Been limited but haven’t seen him do anything that stands out

Yeah, disappointing considering how highly rated he was coming out of high school. The play I remember the most from last season is Schwartz running right past him for a touchdown late in the Auburn game.

About Toles, the dude was just a true freshman last season in a secondary that was in chaos and constantly confused about its coverage responsibility, apparently due to the DC. If you rewatch the spring game, you'll see that Toles did a pretty solid job, outside of a penalty on the opening drive. He was frequently around the ball and in position.

The word is Major Burns and Jay Ward will probably be the two starters when the season begins on Sept. 4th.

McGlothern is not a slot corner.
