Game at Bona. VCU up by 2. Bunnies with the ball. About 5 seconds left. They inbound from under the basket to a guy out front who had been on fire and he drains a 3 at the buzzer to win it. CRAP !!! Crowd goes crazy. A security officer picks up the ball and starts walking up the sideline with it. Their fans come streaming out onto the court. Game over right? Not so fast my friend !!! Still .04 on the clock. Four tenths of a second. One of our players runs up and grabs the ball from the security dude and he runs to the baseline and inbounds the ball to one of our guys still on the floor. He heaves it up and the buzzer goes off. The player who ran and grabbed the ball literally start motioning to the ref "T,T,T."...He was dead on. He knew the rule that any outside interference while the game is still in progress results in a one shot technical foul. So VCU got to shoot a T and tied the game after they had cleared the floor and sorted thru all the chaos. Game goes into OT and VCU wins by 6 !! Will is 2-0 vs the Bunnies and their coach Mark Schmidt ????

What a clutch free throw. You’re by yourself. No players around you because of the technical. You miss. You lose. Probably after a five to ten minute game stoppage. I can’t think of a tougher situation for a player shooting a free throw. I think it may be easier to make it on the road with all the noise versus being at home and shooting it with the silence and crowd tension.

So there is a revenge factor on their side? Don't think we needed that.

Why didn't he yell about the technical before heaving it down the court for one final shot?

Just watched the video and read an article about it. The refs completely bungled the whole thing. They called a technical on the fans for running on the court but the time had actually expired so they did nothing wrong. They said they should have called the technical on the security guard for taking the ball which is right.

But the VCU guy grabbed the ball and a play was run so you can't go back and call something that happened after another play was run. VCU was lucky that even though the refs were shitty and screwed up they still ended up getting it right even if they were wrong with how they did it.

Crazy that a similar scenario happened the following game against GW. GW hits a 3 with 0.4 on clock to take a 1 pt the lead and there's a foul on the inbounds play. VCU makes 2 FT's and wins the game.

Yes. Back to back road games trailing both with .04 left. And won both. Clutch FTs by the same player in both situations.

Yes it was a fiasco. The refs were clueless. The guy who inbounded the ball immediately went to the ref and starting saying "T, T, T." He isnt the one who took the last shot. He ran and got the ball and threw it inbounds, thinking that if the ball was in play with fans streaming on to the court then the refs would have to call a technical.
