Spring Game Cliffs for Someone Who Didn't Get to Watch

I didn't get to watch the game, but I've read through some threads and picked up a few tidbits:

- Dline is as nasty as some predicted (Not me, I was skeptical, to say the least).
- Chaisson wrecked shite?
- QB play is, well, not good. Leaving it at that.
- Running game is not what we are used to.
- Oline is nothing special.
- WRs are the best group on offense, by a wide margin.

Some questions I have:

- Who started opposite of Greedy? What did the CBs look like as a group?
- Safety play was solid, I assume?
- LBs as good as advertised?
- What type of offensive system does it look like Ensminger is installing?
- Are the 6-6/7-5 predictions carrying weight at this point?

TIA for any responses.

Well Ryan, it's a question.

Running game is not what we are used to.

CEH looked like an SEC running back, but Brossette did not. In fact, Fournette looked better than Brossette to me.

In a funny twist, it actually kinda looked like what everyone was making fun of by saying it was some West coast with spread principles and spread option while being a downhill running team. I'm not sure they know exactly what they're going to settle on just yet. The overall concept is fine, execution needs to get better as expected.

Delpit got hurt. Looked like a broken collarbone with the way he landed and was holding it. Walked off holding it a lot like Romo or Rodgers. Possibly a separated shoulder, but I'd expect him back for the opener.

Justin Jefferson is legit. Had a great one-handed catch with Greedy draped over him.

Jacob Phillips was all over the place. Will be a great duo with Devin.

Chaisson, Anthony, and Moore are going to give Aranda lots to play with. Great size and athleticism from all three.

Even with all that, we might go 6-6 as most say.

Vincent and Kirklin shared reps opposite Greedy. Both did ok. Safeties I thought played well. Eric Monroe impressed me the most from that group. Jacob Phillips started next to Devin White and was all over the field. O-line got beat on the edge in pass protection a good bit but we were without our starting LT. Ensminger offense majority of the time was shotgun with 3 wide, a TE/H-back, and a RB in the backfield. I think the offense can be successful if a QB can emerge and be consistent. All 3 QB’s made some good throws at times but not on a consistent basis.

Players I thought stood out:

Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Jacob Phillips
Eric Monroe
K’Lavon Chaisson
Justin Jefferson

Pettigrew stood out to me also. He needs to be a priority in the passing game.

I like Battle, but Monroe is clearly the better player. He outplayed Battle every time he got snaps last year.

I'm not going to quote the rest of your post, but it all sounds like the defense is going to be really good. The offense, maybe not so much?

Yes I agree, Pettigrew is a huge target and can be a big mismatch for whoever tries to cover him.

Defense will be nasty this year. White and Phillips will be the best 2 inside LBers in the conference this year. Offense just needs more time together. We are having to replace our starting QB, 2 WR’s and RB. On top of that having to learn a new offense again after learning Canada’s offense last year. It’s definitely a work in progress, but we have ALOT of talent at the skill positions.

I think once the offense minimizes the mistakes they’ll be fine & a new identity will emerge. I think that’ll center around our talented WRs & a short passing game. Expect a lot of play actions with simple reads.

It’s a lot of new faces & players running a new system. They’ll get plenty of reps in the fall prior to Miami, and you won’t see fumbled snaps under center, poor shotgun snaps, and sloppy QB/RB exchanges.

Defense will be dominant. Depth will be my only concern.

Looked like Terrace Marshall was injured early in the game. Ankle maybe. He never returned.
