Absolutely clean slide and much less showboating after than I would have anticipated from the discussion. I woulld have shown a little more concern for the other player but...........

The catcher is blocking the plate (as he should) and the runner ran through the catcher (as he should). Spikes were nowheres near "up". Spikes contacted at the knee which was on the ground.

way to set those douches straight. that is exactly why i can't stand lsu fans from time to time. they can be the most uniformed and jaded fricks ever.

there was a whole lot of this in that thread when describing what happened:

watch the replay he goes above the knee plus when sliding feet first your first foot should not come off the ground unless going over the base from too much speed.

I had no problem with the slide, I think it is dangerous to go up that high however. I don't think it was the intent of Ware to injure the catcher and just a bad habit.

The slide was definitely ok. I would have led with my shoulder though.

I got booted from two legion games and one HS game for the shoulder into the catcher and raking the ball out of his mitt.

If Spencer had done that in Fenway as a Yankee what would have happened?

Clean slide but a little over the top in his reaction. As an LSU fan I like the enthusiasm because of how the past few weeks have gone but I understand how the Vandy fans would take offense.

The foolish catcher was blocking the plate with his knee, and Ware simply was making a slide that he started with his feet not perfectly together but brought quickly together to meet the catcher's knee. Stop the motion, and you can clearly see Ware's feet close together before the catcher's knee started moving.

What would be more foolish would be rules that allowed catchers to block the plate and later cry about getting mowed down. This catcher was asking for it, and he got it. Catchers should be required to allow access to the plate or to get the heck out of the way of the runner if the throw ain't right on target (which it usually ain't) or to not cry when they get mowed down by momentum (mass multiplied by velocity). Catchers should be penalized not runners.

Ware mowed down a second baseman before the spring game. I hope he continues rather than give in to microanalyzing. (I played catcher against bad teams and second baseman against good teams. Second baseman is a dream job.) I sure as heck got out of the way of all that momentum. And when I didn't, I didn't cry about it.

Excessive celebration? No. Why? My post is already too long.

We're lucky he didn't snap his ankle on that slide. Easily could've caught a cleat in the catcher's pants.
