Recreational Department - specifically Westgate Playground. Our baseball uniforms were some manner of wool, hung on us like potato sacks, always started play by 8am, the dew was so thick the baseball would throw a fishtail as it rolled your way. Once you caught up to it and threw it, the darn thing was sopping wet resulting in a mind/direction of its own.

There was but one faucet to drink from - assume ice hadn't been invented - and how the catcher didn't pass out from a heat stroke is beyond me.

As an aside, wasn't worth a rip but loved every second of it

Play Ball.....Let's go Tigers

Great memories. I was on the westbank doing the same thing. Didn’t care how hot it was or what hose the water came out of. It was great!

Same two or three baseballs week to week. Maybe that is why we started at 8am - so you could see them!

I grew up on Massachusetts Ave and played lots of ball at Westgate. Great times back in the mid 70’s to mid 80’s.
