COBOL would be a dead language except for the fact that it is almost inextricably threaded through the entire financial and banking systems.
Those systems are beginning to be phased out, but they definitely still exist. Speaking of, working in IT/OT, I’ve seen DOS systems still being used in billion dollar O&G DCS environments.

In the financial world. I suspect whoever wrote the commercial probably googled what programmers are the hardest to find, without checking to see if any manufacturing components have ever been programmed with it.
