h, I see. You're just here to piss and moan.

Nah. The point is it's hard to score 87 points against anyone and to follow that up with 48 against App State (which is not some high school) is impressive. And, our defense has questions, and dare I say a problem with giving up big plays.

Major Applewhite is a big name? I guess if you go by the number of letters in his name you might have an argument. Otherwise … no.

He was at both Texas and Bama…had some major gaffes. If he can stay at South Alabama for the next 2/3 years and win games, he will undoubtedly get looks from major programs. Look at the state of football. Freeze coaching, Sark back, Petrino coordinator at arky. If you can win, you’ll get hired.

Also, Can’t help but root for a hometown guy. Ofcourse in typical Louisiana fashion, everyone roots for people to fail from here

Well therein lies the problem for Major.

He has to win.

He didn’t move up and was in fact fired from an easier program to win at-UH

AND

It’s not like he’s 4-0 at USA.

He’s 2-2

People are hyping him purely because they know his name.

App State had the 122nd ranked defense before the South Al game. Northwestern is the 120th ranked defense in the FCS. Tulsa scored 62 on them and two FCS schools scored 37 & 39.

Also, their offense did not score 87, 1 punt return, and 1 pick 6. Additionally, two scores came on very short fields due to turnovers inside the 20. NSU had 4 turnovers. From what I can tell, they did not call off the dog like most teams do, either.

They won’t beat LSU. Nuss Buss is starting to get a full head of steam.

Scoring on South Alabama won’t be a problem. Stopping their heavy run oriented offense may be.

South has played really well. We will have to be focused on them and not worried about ole miss. Good news we have a few off week between them so it should be easier to control the focus.

Defense horrid
STs hold your breath
Offense craters in red zone
SEC break even at best. And not sure who they can definitely beat, if anybody.
Even if they win next week, OM will crush them like TN did 2 years ago.

Major Applewhite is a BR kid too. He’ll bring out all the stops…wouldn’t be shocked if he’s a HC in the SEC in a few years

The perception about Applewhite wasn’t too high after his first two games at South, and while the Northwestern score got a lot of notoriety, there were still questions.

Going on the road to Boone and beating the favorite in the SBC east, especially in such a dominant manner, has changed that perception quite a bit.

Given the failure of “Sun Belt Billy” at Florida, I doubt many Sun Belt to SEC coaching jumps are happening in the near future. Heck, USA’s coach last year Kane Wommack left to be the DC at Alabama (though that was partially due to a previous connection with deBoer). He is a much higher thought of commodity in coaching ranks.

I expect the 1st half to be a little uncomfortable, but agree with you that our talent edge will allow us to pull away.

That said, our D has been so close to multiple negative plays that go for big gains on opposing O. And we have started slow this season.

IF our D could make those plays & we start fast, could be a snooze fest.
