Aquarium is pretty neat. They have Beluga Whales, really cool.

Lots of pretty decent restaurants around CNN Center. Ted Turner's Montana Grill is excellent. Get the bison burger !

Can't say I've ever had to run from a shooting in NOLA but sure enough had to when I was in ATL for a LSU game.

Cirque Soleil at Atlantic Station .. might get some tix at 1/2 price day of.

The Titantic exhibit (same place).

A bit more academic, but the Federal Reserve Bank is a free tour. Midtown Marta (yes, I use marta) station.

You can also walk to Cheetah's from there.

Restaurants in Virginia Highlands (by taxi): Murphy's, Fontaine's, Tavola's, El Taco and Going Coastal .. Yeah Burger.

World of Coke for the kids.

depends on your crowd. If you're in your 20s still wanting to party like a fratstar then it's your place. Otherwise, VAHI and midtown can be fun areas.

Here's my rundown:

Stay at hotel close to a MARTA station. That means pretty much anywhere in Buckhead, Midtown, and Downtown. MARTA is plenty safe, especially when big football crowds are in town.

If you have kids:
World of Coke
Aquarium
Stone Mountain
Piedmont Park

If you're looking to party:

Buckhead
There's an area of bars that's essentially grown up Tigerland. These are your college bar type places filled with ex SEC fratdaddies and sorostitutes. MARTA stop is probably 1-2 miles away so you're best off getting a Taxi. Each place is pretty much the same, but note that hats aren't allowed in East Andrews. Start your night at any of the bars in the area, but end your night at 8 tracks (DJ/go go dancers/neon/dubstep/rave) or Johnny's Hideaway (famous cougar spot playing 70s/disco music).

Midtown
Easy access to MARTA stop on 10th I believe. There's a few cool spots on Crescent a block or two from MARTA. RiRa is a cool pub. The big spots in Midtown are very clubby though. I've never been because it's not my thing so I can't offer too much here. There are a good bit of gay bars in the area so be careful to avoid them if that's not your thing.

Virginia Highlands
This is on the other side of Piedmont Park from Midtown and to get there, you'll need to take a taxi. It's a little more subdued than Buckhead, but the ladies are just as lovely. Neighbors and Hand in Hand are cool spots to sit back and hang out. Many places along highland are cool to chill at if you want to avoid that craziness and youth of Buckhead, but that's not to say VAHI bars can't get rowdy.

Other Options:

Concert/Event Venues
Masquerade
Fox Theatre
Variety Playhouse
Tabernacle
Cirque de Soleil - loacated at Atlantic Station (North of GaTech/west midtown)

Alternative parts of town

Decatur - really cool town 15 minutes west of Atlanta.
Little 5 Points - hippies, crazy people, bums, artsy
West Midtown - hipsters?
Atlantic Station - Perkins Rowe on steroids

Underground Atlanta is something to kill time and The Varsity is a good place to grab a hot dog with a nostalgic feel to it.
