So,I have a question. Do yall think the overall pretty damn good play by the d line was because we sent more then they could block most of the time,or was it the fact that were just better at rushing the passer this year?

I would have loved for us to play more zone then we did, which wasn't very much, but hell ,he wasn't lying when he said we would be playing an attacking style defense up front.

Coach o said they made adjustments but they didnt work. I guess I missed those.

But yeah,is our d line gonna give people problems or was it the fact we blitzed alot? Ali gaye played well,I saw ojulari on the field in what I assume was the cheetah package but couldn't really keep an eye on him without getting sidetracked by the whole play .

Is there anyone that saw any other d linemen getting pressure on Costello? Anybody see how well ojulari did against there tackles?

We can hate on pelini for not adjusting all we want ,we have plenty of criticism for him and rightfully so.

However there is no doubt that we got more pressure on the qb then we have in years. Except maybe when Lawrence and chaisson got going good at the end of last year.
Allie gay maybe break the lsu record for sacks in a players first ten games .I'm sure Arden key would have that record.

Ok, after working through all of your incoherent thoughts I believe you are asking if the DL is really that good and if we are excited about it.

I would say the DL is the only unit that excelled on D in week 1 and until proven otherwise, I will assume that they are pretty damn good.

I think Gaye is legit.

He had more spiked balls than some of Our volleyball players.

I think BJ is probably gonna pass Anthony as soon as he has a good enough grasp of the defense.

Anthony is just short of being really disruptive. He’s always just off.
Also, did Anthony being #3 throw anyone off? I know About the number change but half the time I thought We were blitzing Jacoby every down.

I though Cox and Clark were good. So the front 6 were fine IMO.
And the DLine was being held 75% of the snaps. They literally tackled Gaye twice that I recall with no flag

Yeah, the question was ,was it the blitzing that got the pressure mostly ,or was it the d line? Or both?

It was scheme based. Allowed our DEs to get 1v1 matchups.

This was a point of pride for Bo, but also necessary given the talent. I don’t think the personnel on the field had much a choice to play anything more mentally complex than man coverage.

Both. Scheme oriented pressure. We are going to be a terror as the season progresses.

DL looks pretty good. Db’s look like arse. Doesn’t matter if you get pressure when your db’s can’t cover shite

Both. I don't have a split of how much either...

But, there's no denying the fact that we saw multiple players "winning battles", consistently I might add. That's not a numbers game. That's players making plays. Of course Gaye stands stands out, Ika too. But they weren't alone.

The blitzing was (hopefully not "is") a problem primarily because:
A) there were many many plays where, against an air raid offense, you have YAC with the S no where to be found. Including on less than 10 yd routes after they've gained another 10 yds. YAC. So schematically, maybe the S shouldn't have been blitzing. Maybe.

But the biggest problem, based on the theory that if you blitz you have to get there first, especially if it is a S:

B) Was not disguised well enough. Costello knew, or had a pretty damn good idea, where to go before the ball was snapped. So if you're not disguising your S blitz well enough where the QB knows it is coming and where he can quickly get rid of it for the biggest gain, you have already lost the play. If it is disguised, maybe the QB takes longer and you get there and win the play.

They had that advantage; and I'll point out that our offense is based on exactly the same thing but we didn't execute in that manner and they won plays because pressure hit home (or "affected" Brennan) before ball left home.

I dont remember seeing many blitzing lbs though. So it may have looked like we were blitzing more then we actually were.

I'd like to go back and see. I think that 4 man front just makes it appear that there is blitzing going on.

If I'm wrong there, let me know ,I'd like to know y'alls opinions and also did yall notice any young d line or outside backers getting to the qb?

Travez didnt play good . I thought he was starting over Andre Anthony or ray Thornton. One of them didnt play much but dont remember who.

I was also looking for mcglothern and Phillip webb ,anyone see either on the field?

All I heard was mcglothern was nails at practice, so I wonder why he didnt get to play over freaking evans

Not that it's a big deal at all,but I'm trying to figure out how our d line was getting home,if it was the blitz or if they just won there matchups..

Isn't this exactly the thing to talk about on tiger rant? I get 100 percent downvotes for asking a question about the lsu football team. It's not an obvious bad question

So seriously, what are we supposed to talk about on here
. I've never cared about downvotes, but for the life of me ,I can't understand these downvotes. What are the appropriate questions to ask if you dont want downvotes? Its ridiculous. It happens all the time to everybody and if you ask any question, downvotes pour in.

Stevens played LB pretty much the whole game with Harris and Hampton taking the safety snaps.

The downvotes are because of your rambling. Ask the question and maybe add a your opinion in a precise manner but most of the OP is you trying to think out loud. Its all over the place.

Negas were starving last year, so with an opening loss, they feel empowered. They auto downvote a post titled "Something to be excited about?" because they don't want there to be anything to be excited about.
