Why would Kentucky hire him as OC? Sure, his first year as OC at LSU was good, but this season was absolutely terrible offensively. Did he show enough for Kentucky to give him a shot? Or are they making a big mistake?

They probably saw he had that year with Jayden Daniels and thought maybe there is some hope? Idk

Good luck to them though. He is absolutely garbage at calling a game and adjusting.

Kentucky also does not have a heisman QB, and two first round receivers

Kentucky’s HC is a younger offensive mind (Oregon’s OC). Probably knew about Sloan for awhile. Both were in CUSA (2020-2021). Stein at UTSA & Sloan at La Tech

Actually should probably be a good duo working together

Sloan could be a good Pete Carmichael soldier to Will Stein's aka Shawn Peighton. Or Kellen Moore's Doug Nussmeier.

May well be indicative of how much CBK was involved and how much he sucked.

Joe Sloan was good working with Denbrock. I’d imagine Joe Sloan would be good working with Lane Kiffin.

He’s obviously not good on his own, but no reason to think he can’t succeed with another offensive minded coach

They are probably thinking this guy did the best he could with the worst OL in school history, a hobbled/overrated QB, and a checked out HC. Probably not a terrible calculated risk for a program like Kentucky.

Coaches can learn and get better, just like players

Sloan was a victim of CBK’s inability to restock the oline. There were countless times where Sloan had a good playcall only for the oline to get blown up and the play never happens.

I get the sense from Sloan that he's an excellent coach on a whiteboard, but terrible on a headset. Sloan was getting a lot of praise in September for how innovative and creative we got with our screen game and how many counters we had off of it. Stein must like him as a creative mind, but hopefully he understands that he needs to take majority of the playcalling duties.

It is rare that fans are pleased with their OC. I don't invest the time nor am I astute enough to critique OCs.

In Sloan's case, almost everyone with some football acumen are left scratching their head on some of his strategies (Hester, Flynn, Dickson).

In Sloan's defense, he had no run game, his QB's arm strength nosedived, and when he did orchestrate plays that had success written all over them, the abject lack of basic fundamentals doomed 'em.

It won't be his offense and I'm not sure he'll even call the plays. The HC is the OC. It's a Lane Kiffin situation.

I think people believe he's a good recruiter and QB coach.

Yep! It reminds of a former LSU head Coach. A Fan called his Radio Show and mentioned a failed attempt to score, at the goal line. Fan said, Coach, why didn't you call play XYZ. The Coach answered. That was the Play that was called, the defense just beat our O Line.

Joe Sloan was never the problem.

Trying to call plays for a turnover machine QB was the problem.

Sloan will make a paycheck in football next year, Nuss won't.

Denbrock was OC. Joe Sloan has proven to be a good position coach, but nothing suggests he has ever been nor ever will be a good coordinator.

That’s not a particularly rare phenomenon.

The cats named him OC, not QB coach… So there’s your difference. They’re going to fail spectacularly.

The Kelly/Sloan dynamic seemed to be that Sloan had free rein. Where are our new HC/OC relationship is working together to make a plan.

More and more I am convinced Brian Kelly was an absentee and his coordinators suffered from it... CBK set the tone.
