The tiger nickname actually comes from Auburn. Their first football coach came from Auburn and he was responsible for the mascot and colors which are also related, but not the same, obviously, orange and purple v. orange and navy.
Now Tiger Rag came from the New Orleans ragtime song, first used by a college band at LSU.
