Some perspective from an Old Tiger

I am more convinced than ever that we are witnessing the ushering in of a Golden Age in Tiger Athletics!
Coach Kelly is a detail oriented, big picture kind of guy. I think he is stoked to have the chance to coach some of the greatest athletes in the best conference. He will put in place processes that are so very needed. There will be some growing pains in the culture reset, but the result will be worth it.
I am not an O basher. I like Coach O, always have, and always will. His vision as a “CEO” was clearly not the same as Kelly’s will be. O was very much a rah rah overseer, but he was limited in his technical expertise beyond line play. That being said, every Tiger Fan I know feels like two years of disappointment and chaos are things they have survived, knowing that in 2019 O caught lightning in a bottle and coached the greatest team ever in the perfect season. That season was the season we had always craved.
The other sports are all clearly on the upswing as well. Wade’s attention to detail really shows now that he has a group that has fullly bought in to his vision of how the game is to be played (who in the world actually studies the “tip” techniques of the officials who will be handling the game?!!?!!?) Ladies BB is light years ahead already, and I strongly suspect baseball is going to be very impressive.
In a transition time when signing day could have been a disaster, it was anything but. We have got some road graders coming for the O line, a talented QB, and some other help, which will continue to improve with the portal selections.
Finally, don’t sweat the outgoing portal. We want kids that bleed purple and gold, and we are starting out on the journey to build a fence around La to keep all our great talent home.
Geaux Tigers!!!!

Great assessment.
I think a lot of Tiger fans, myself included, didn’t understand the extend of the rebuild that is necessary. It’s gonna be hard at times, but CBK is without a doubt the right person to rebuild something bigger and better. He did it at both Cincinnati and ND, and he will do it here.
It is our job to have perspective and patience and support him even when we may not understand what’s going on behind the scenes.
Geaux Tigers!

Positive, well written, rational, intuitive, intelligent...etc. Are you sure you're from New Iberia?

We're going to hear "lightning in a bottle" until we win another championship.

I don't understand how "lightening in bottle" saying is a negative thing for some people. So what! They won it all in 2019 with the greatest assembly of offensive talent ever. Don't care what other fans say anyway. I like current situation and opportunities for new regime.

Seldom do I read a longish post on the rant without some disagreement.
This should bother you because I can be a disagreeable old cuss.
But from one old Tiger to another, well said.

Scott?
_______
I did not mention Scott Woodward in my perspective, as it was starting to run pretty long as a post. However, I feel so much better with him at the helm. I was never an Alleva fan, and wondered how in the world he even got the LSU job after the Duke lacrosse massacre. ‘
It is nice to see an AD run circles around the prognosticators, and I fully expect that he will continue to improve our overall situation. That being said, he needs to make sure that we, in the name of compliance, don’t continue to overly handicap ourselves. We cant afford to give everyone else a 20 yard head start in the 100 yard dash, with less demanding compliance.
Scott also needs to work on the game day experience. We will have some magic happening on the field, and it would be nice for game day and concessions and the like to match that excellence. Who knows- you might even keep a full stadium for the whole game.
Finally, Scott and BDK need to work big time on NIL and have a process in place that keeps us competitive. If we don’t have the correct resources in place, then get them. This state and our culture is so unique, it seems like NIL could be a real advantage for us. It doesn’t feel that way right now, but I’m confident things will improve with these guys running the show.

By the way, I didn’t mention in my post that this Old Tiger is out of action for the next month or so after a really serious ‘COVID hospitalization. That means I will miss out on one of the things I truly enjoy: Making road trips with my wife for the out of town basketball games, then giving my Road Trip Notes from an Old Tiger.
We got to see all the early season ‘BB games, and who knows how things will look once we start playing really talented conference teams, but I am loving the defensive intensity of this group. Geaux ‘Tigers!

Much like your support of Coach O, when things didn’t go well?

I'm with ya, but you have do better than just bring in a bunch of "Rudys". The Bama, UGA, and now TAM, talent gaps are alarming.

There's a critical difference between calling for patience for a new coach, and objectively realizing that an established coach is doing more damage to a program that he is good.
ETA: Also, if you want to draw parallels between the two: which program(s) did Orgeron build? I'll save you some time: none. And this isn't meant to pile on Ed, but rather highlight the stupidity of your comment.
