it is why i said BC stayed a year too long and should have transferred with Selman after sophomore year. Bc was the louisiana gatorade POTY and could throw every pitch in the book. She deserved to play somewhere. Her loyalty wasted her junior year. Not blaming anyone but these girls have to look our for themselves. I had a recruiter tell me her time was done once Beth brought in AW and CH. It is understandable as teams are always looking tp improve and upgrade. doesn't mean she was bad at all.

I know this is random but our signee Taryn Antoine was just named to the Louisville Slugger Hit Club. The 10 best/elite hitters in the entire country are named to this small group.
Huge honor to make it and is a testament to her offensive abilities to be apart of this group.
Her and Sunseri also were named PGF First Team All Americans.
Bright Future ahead adding these two players, both should make immediate impacts next season at the plate.

That's good news about Taryn!!
On the pressing issue here, sometimes the player hasn't shown in practice that she's deserving of all the playing time that the fans think she needs. For me to start a freshman for a long period of time over a senior, she would have to be heads and tails dominant over the senior. If not, I want her practicing to get to that point to be able to take over that position as a sophomore and not miss a beat. Overall that worked out for me just about every time.
Baylor and LSU softball have gained transfers from each other over the years. Kirsten Shortridge transferred here from Baylor. I was at a HS game on Baylor's and Glenn told me about it. Baylor wasn't a good fit for her, but he thought LSU would be good for her and he was correct. It just works out that way for players sometimes.

Look at who she played though and it was in limited action. I would expect a much lower ERA in limited midweek games.
I think Corbello was a very talented player that just happened to be around when we had two All Americans on the roster, then you add Smith. I can see what you are saying but it was the right move to continue to ride the two horses who are dominant and among the best in the country.
The gap between Corb and the others was not significant enough to essentially bench Corb. Especially considering all that she gave you the previous year. Handing out 34 innings was just BS. There were plenty of OOC games and bottom SEC teams to give Corb more innings especially when she could have come in more often when games were decided. Again, it's not like she was some chump pitcher. You are talking about the ace on your staff from the previous year and someone that had won a lot of games for you.
I have coached a lot in my life at various levels. If I were in the same situation as the coach here, there is absolutely no way I treat her the way she was treated. I could never imagine leaning on someone so heavily and then the next year hardly acknowledging them. I mean come on... 34 innings??? At that level, pitching a no hitter against anyone is a significant feat. Surely points to having great stuff "some" of the time.
I also think the way BT handles her staff is beginning to hurt her in recruiting elite level pitchers and I will just leave it at that...... Gorsuch and the others are definitely several steps behind Wall and Hoover.
I respect the job she has done, but I don't have to agree with all of the decisions she makes. I think the similar things happened this year with Smith. She is an excellent pitcher that pitched 3 complete game shutouts in a row against SEC teams. Next outing, she gives up a big hit and you don't hardly see her again. WTF is that? You have Hoover throwing WP every time she enters a game and fighting injuries but you keep putting her out there and keep Smith benched? Just ridiculous.
I don't mean this as a slam to BT or any of the players. They are all good. I just think there is definitely some favoritism and mismanagement.

Not sure about this... Sunseri is a top 30 player and was just named an All American Pitcher by multiple softball experts and organizations. She will likely see a lot of significant time in the circle next season as well as be an everyday hitter.
Wickersham is a top 20 prospect next year and is a pitcher another All American pitcher out of HS.
We already have the #2 pitcher in the country for 2020 with Morgan Smith out of Cali.
2021 we are already in the running for the #1 and #3 pitchers in the country as well.
Me personally, I probably would have played certain players a little more, not saying I agree with all of Torinas decisions. As much as I "pump" I am critical as well, I had my issues with the way stuff was handled at times this season.
Gorsuch was the real deal, I just think she was mentally shot after the major injury she had her senior year in HS. When she looks calm and collected she does have a lot of very good pitches and looks very good. Lets see how next year goes with her.I think once she gets past that mental hurdle she will be fine.
I just realistically think, even if certain players were to get a little more time is impossible to keep every person happy and to give everyone what they want, its just not feasible whatsoever.
If there is one thing I wish Torina would do, it would be to play more second stringers during midweek games but that her decision.
I definitely think there was a certain "favortism" with Quinn due to her leadership and stuff she has done with the program.
As far as Sanchez, she looked legit the day she stepped on campus. She looked impressive in all the practices I saw her in and hit Walljasper and Hoover plenty as well. She has not looked the same since her Chemo treatments, it required her to miss a bit of time as well. Of all players on the team she is by far the most hardworking and I think that itself is why you saw her play even with suspect performances. She literally was getting kicked out Tiger Park and the Batting cages by Leftwich every night. I mentioned earlier Torina really favors kids who work the hardest over talent. I also think the staff was hoping and waiting too that the Sanchez I've seen for years and the one in practice before the chemo would emerge at some point during the season after a while. Hoping that that player would eventually "click".
Unfortunately that didn't pan out like we all hoped, she did show glimpses at times but the consistency wasn't there.
Not justifying any of her decisions just giving insight to what I know and have seen.

When there is a .243 hitter starting at your position and you have the 3rd highest on base % on the team and you only get 42 AB's...things like this happen.

And as a side note, related to trsnsfers, Sydney Smith transfers out of here to go to Minnesota and today the Minnesota coach bolted for Stanford.
Softball off-season has become almost as entertaining as NFL and MLB free-agency.

It's probably the worst of them all
It's really gotten out of hand the past few years with it, seems to get worse every year
I'm baffled how Stanford can't put together elite teams. It's a hot bed of the best players in the world over in Cali, plus it's Stanford!
She'll put Stanford back on the map, PAC 12 should get juiced next few years!

It's really simple economics. With the cost of tuition at Stanford and the limited softball scholarships it's almost impossible to build depth and have quality starters at every position. Once you run through the scholarship money it's very hard to get kids to pay that kind of money to play when other opportunities are out there.
Think how many private school powers there are outside of football and basketball? Not many, the publics dominate baseball, softball, track and field and most other sports due to cost of getting kids in after schollies run out.
LSU has a huge advantage with by and large cheap tuition and TOPS to apply for in state kids. This allows LSU to recruit at a different level than most schools.

Stanford -- plus there was huge controversy when Coach Rittman was run off from there and the softball program has never recovered. They hired a coach from an Ivy League school who didn't have any Power 5 Conference experience and she never could recruit. Stanford has a lot of academic restrictions, but they have always been able to recruit and be very competitive in every sport. Softball there used to be very good until a couple of years ago.

I don't necessarily disagree with your posts. In a round about way I think we agree that good players that are not everyday starters but soon will be should be cycled in more often in OOC games and when games are in hand. This pretty much sums up my position.
I think Corb could have gotten more playing time without affecting Wall and Hoover. I think Smith should have had opportunities down the stretch... a coach making a confidence statement in her and she probably stays.
I never got into the Dawson arguments and stayed away from bashing Quinn... turns out she had a plethora of clutch hits for us. But, I do think there was a way to keep Dawson happy by inserting her late in games more and playing her more in OOC games. I think this shows confidence in a player without alienating the starter either. It's a good balance. If done correctly, the starters actually enjoy being able to give the younger players some AB's in some sort of mentorship. It works.
I don't like Louisiana players of the year transferring out of the program. What's that now, 2 or 3?
It wouldn't have taken much IMO to keep the above players and I personally think BT should give a little more thought to these types of things. Think about it, all SEC teams are essentially making the Tourney so investing in your future from time to time during the season is not going to hurt and it will certainly help the future.

I hate to say it, but good move by Dawson. This transfer has been known for quite some time but Dawson is not a social media starlet so it wasn't public until Baylor released it. I am not real sure why LSU didn't release it weeks ago when it happened. I seriously doubt we will hear any comment from her or her family regarding this situation.
The two infield transfers coming in are a result of her departure not the other way around.
Dawson was an upgrade at 2nd base from day 1 and should have been an immediate starter. This season, there was no competition for her position. She was told it was to difficult to bench Quinn so she would have to wait her turn and that production at that position didn't matter (this was apparent for the last 3 years).
It is one thing to be beat out, it is another to sit behind players who are not held to a production standard and are simply penciled in 'just because'. If Dawson would have been able to complete for a job and had been beat out she would not be transferring. The staff thought Dawson was purple and gold thru and thru and they could get by with whatever they wanted to do and she would always be around. She informed them otherwise at the end of the year. Total miss by the staff.
Dawson was never in trouble or any of the other things being thrown around. She was just put in an awful situation of not having a chance to compete for a job regardless of how well she performed and how poorly others performed. This would deflate any player. Dawson lost trust in the staff and it is easy to see why.
In retrospect, it is amazing she had the year that she did knowing, no matter what, she was not going to play. She still came out and battled without ever saying a word. I have much respect for her for that. It had to be incredibly difficult to go through this season under these circumstances.
Dawson loves LSU and her family love LSU but sometimes things don't work out and people have to make decisions to protect their interest. This was one of those situations. I wish her nothing but success at Baylor. The Bears got a good one.

Yeah, that's none one sided at all.

Bailey corbello is hot too. I watched the end of the season a couple years ago when she pitched damn near every game. The next season I would keep putting the games on wondering where she was

Actually for those who have followed recruiting for us closely recruiting has actually picked up and improved. Torinas classes since coming to LSU was always around the 10-15 mark besides last years class which were the freshman for this year. 2018 is ranked #8 with two top 20 players and one top 50 player, 2019 is ranked #6 with two top 20 players and 3 other top 100 players, 2020 is already top ten, will be a top 5 class when they do the next update. Morgan Smith will likely end up in the top 5 players, Presleigh Pilon is a major star out of Cali who could sneak into the top 10, Emari Frazier without a doubt will finish in the top 10. Scouts have already compared her bat to Bianka Bell, while also looking much more developed in this point in her career than Bell.
I was disappointed we didn't see more of Dawson but it is what it is and I wish her the best of luck. She will do well at Baylor. LSU will be fine, and it'll all work itself out. We add a really good freshman class this year as well as a lot of elite talent in the future. I think once Doyle and Springfield get straighten out offensively, LSU will be a completely different team the next three years, one that is much more explosive.
I don't get the doom and gloom people continue to push, we heard this always dating back to even when Jaquish was a freshman. LSU will continue to have transfers like all other major programs. If people think LSU is bad than a shite load of other programs must be a mess.

Agree with you! We will be just fine.
Also some stats...
In the NCAA regional, Corbello gave up 5 runs in 3.1 innings vs. LSU.
In 2014, she threw 199.1 innings, with 155 hits plus 153 walks.
In 2015, Hoover and Walljasper combined for 299.1 innings. When Corbello came to LSU, Allie was the next pitcher coming. Hoover was at Stanford and we didn't see her transferring to LSU. So if she doesn't transfer then Corbello probably would have split those innings with Walljasper. Hoover coming changed all that and I don't blame our coaches one bit for taking her in --- I know I would have taken her.

Our staff is highly respected in softball circles around the country. So many of the greatest players in history drop by to visit from time to time and our players gain experiences from seeing them. I can say that the two highest attended clinics that I've hosted for 14 years were the last two when LSU coaches came to speak. More than Gasso, Murphy, Candrea, Evans, White.... there were several who were at my clinic in Houston on Thurs-Fri and then drive to BR for LSU Clinic on Sat-Sun.

No one likes Gasso at all but she does recruit extremely well. There have been a lot of people who have issues with the way they recruit, they literally get reported every year for illegal contact with players but have never had any dealings with the NCAA. There really is a blood bath between top programs on the recruiting trail now due to all this taking off over the last 5 years. Seems to be getting worse at times too, really shocked that the NCAA seems to have backed off on this especially. I heard they made changes to the dates for recruiting but I don't know all the rules.
Clint's programs are always chaotic and extremely messy.
The Weekly's literally like the other poster said is a revolving door. Its a miracle they have a senior it seems. They run off everyone it seems like. They really are brutal coaches to play for.
Murphy is a good coach but literally is a douche bag, a lot of his former players I know personally didn't like him very much nor do they keep in touch. A lot go to Bama mainly due to Habetz.
I really wonder how much longer Candrea will stick around, a lot of unhappy people down there. His teams just haven't gotten it done lately despite having talent.
