I know a lot of people will downvote but I think tonight definitely showed where Torinas next step for us need to be specifically and its at the plate. I wasn't expectin us to hit Barnhill but a lot of the at bats showcased a lot of the flaws we have seen all season

Serrett came in and hit .300 last year and seems to have went backwards somewhat.

There is zero reason Doyle shouldn't hit over .300, her pitch selection looked much better towards the end of SEC play then she went backwards with her selection.

We have a lot of talented ladies. Everyone one of them should have no issues hitting above .280

We just need to revamp a lot of these ladies swings and alter our approach a little bit.

Also, I don't know if its just me but it seems like besides Jaquish, Not one person on this team can hit an outside pitch. I notice a lot of teams attack the outside a lot against us

Ready for tomorrow, these ladies can come back. Just shake it off, come out with some fire.

I haven't really followed womens softball, so forgive me if I'm wrong here. They from the few games I've watched anyways seem to rely on big gurl's pitching a whole lot. They used her yesterday and now back at it again today, and after a lil bit she seems to fall apart serving up the fastballs over the plate that anybody can hit out if you just get the bat on it. Torina needs to get more strong pitching, that should be her goal this off season. Other than that congrats Lady Tigers for making it to the WCWS again.

That big gurl as you say would be pitching for most teams in America not named Oklahoma and Florida. When you ask Torina to go out and get better pitching everybody in the country is trying to get the same 8-10 girls.

The elite pitcher is like UCONN women's basketball where Geno gets 5 of the top 8 players in the country. The top pitchers are going to go to the top programs and they are separated by returning players and depth.

Whoever thinks pitching is the issue is a moron.

hoover and walljasper would start for any team in the country not named Florida.

LSU's issue is the offense not its pitching.

The Barnhill and Gourley duo is as nasty as anything we will ever see in college softball. No you will never put up 10 runs on them but you can scatter hits and score with risp

Totally agree. To win at this CWS level, LSU needs runs. To get runs, LSU needs real hits (doubles or greater).

Against great pitching, LSU needs great hitters with BA of .300 or greater to do doubles or more (slugging % enters). Yields RBIs. Yields runs. Runs win games. Not hits. Not OBP.

LSU has great pitchers just as much as Florida. Notice the 0-0 score into the 4th inning. Ump was tight with his calls, but he was tight for both pitchers. I did not have a problem with that.

It was a struggle for both teams offensively to that point. Then Florida broke through with a well placed hit with 2 runners aboard in the 4th to take a 2-0 lead.

You know this. You saw this. Still, my point really is LSU could have done this same thing earlier in the game. However, it takes hitters to take advantage of 2 people on base (however they got there) to produce the 2 runs (2 RBI).

LSU didn't. They did not get the lead in the 1st 3 innings (even though they were given the advantage of being the home team).

People that have followed baseball (of course includes softball) all their lives realize scoring first (getting the lead) in a ball game is a tremendous advantage (mind relaxer) for the pitcher that now has the lead. Changes totally the pitching mindset, pitching approach, etc.

LSU could not do that. So, once again, it's not pitching. We did super good - very, very well. It's the hitting. We will get better in the future. I always follow our LSU team...

Not sure about the 7th run but if the out at 1st would have been called and the 3rd strike on the batter after the missed call at 1st then the game would have been 3-0. A lot less looking like a blow out.

However, the girls Beth signs are excellent high school hitters when they come in. So why don't they hit in college. Jaquish and Bell hit well as freshmen. It's puzzling the current freshmen aren't more consistent.

Pitching is not our problem. Timely hitting and defense at times is. You can't expect our great pitchers to be perfect every game. If not for Hoover's injury, we would be even higher than we are in pitching ranks and we still have one of the best staffs in the country (even with the injury). It's hitting first, then our errors. Our defense was pretty good yesterday. We just didn't hit at all.

pisses me off to no end. when i forst saw those two as freshies i said we should win a natty within their 4 years. sad. 3 straight WCWS and it does not look good. if you thought the hitting was bad now you shoulda seen the 2012 WCWS team. two stud pitchers also with no help.

I've followed the program for a long time. I certainly remember, and I thought the same thing when we saw Walljasper and Hoover dominate as freshmen.

It fees like making 5 straight final fours and not winning it all mid 2000s lady tiger basketball edition

I still believe Beth is going to win a few national titles at LSU, but frustrating nonetheless we'll probably never have a duo like walljasper and hoover

Trademark of Torina's teams, lack of a killer instinct. If Jaquish isnt driving in runs, theyre in trouble.

same here. i wanna say since 2001 when we had britney sneed. the 2004 WCWS was exciting and schimdt was a warrior pitching 3 games in a day before finally wearing down.

don't get me wrong, mack and fico were both all americans at LSU but we had only one real great year with them together and that was in 2012 and we had ZILCH for offense that year.

As we have discussed, we will have had alie and carley for 4 years. them leaving without a natty would be robbery. You can feel the urgency mounting. big things were expected from LSU with those two. Beth needs to do whatever the hell it takes to fix the offense before next year if we cannot get it done this year. I have always supported dobson and as a coach i believe in using and letting players play to their strengths and styles but we are all over the place hitting wise now and seem to have hit a ceiling for now. we need to bust through it and very very soon. Give dobson a chance to fix this if not.......it is up to beth. her call. she takes ultimate responsibility as the HC.

thus IMO, the need to play small ball against her. needed to take chances stealing, bunting, we did not get productive outs. we prolly could have manufactured a couple runs...maybe....doing that. straight up trying to hit her with our plate discipline backfired.

No, they'll show up and say "her frustration is understandable" for being called on to pinch hit in a mop-up role.

Right because we looked so good on offense today (and all year) that only one player had a bad at bat.

Keep trolling...

Good post, agree. I'd much rather play UO than Florida. 40 shut outs this season is insane.

The two best teams are UO and Florida, everyone else playing for 3rd in my opinion. If we can get a few breaks, play average defense on the infield and get any production from 5-6-7-8 in our lineup we have proven we can beat just about anyone.

Keep playing hard and pitching and hopefully good things will keep happening.

Exactly what myself and othe avid softballers who know the game and have watched kelly pitch have said. U can beat her with smallball. Yeah swinging away with our plate problems from certain players trying to hit doubles really paid off. Lmao.

Let's face it though. She was undefeated when they score 2 runs. Could we have scored 3? Thing is even if we did you saw how many they scored on us.
